Adam Sandler Biography

The comical personality of Adam Sandler on screen and his ability to amuse audiences with a natural effortless ease has made him one of the top comedy actors and a favourite actor to many. Originally named Adam Richard Sandler after he was born to Stanley and Judy Sandler on September 9th 1966 in Brooklyn, New York, he spent a part of his childhood moving houses before settling back in New York after a brief period in Manchester, England.

His academic life traces back to the Webster Elementary , the Hillside Junior High, the Manchester Central High School, the New York University , New York as a Drama and Fine Arts major and the Tisch School of the Arts also in New York. Although he was never much of the academic type Sandler stayed on in school with consistent poor grades because his parents insisted that the only way out of economic hardship was through good academic credentials. Attempt after attempt and Sandler still did not improve, this was also difficult because the young boy was always skipping lectures to spend time in the school basketball court or the wrestling arena.

Sandler had several trips to the principal’s office after his comics had distracted his classmates or after he had pulled a prank on the school administrators. After college Sandler tried his hand in music by producing a couple of record singles from a 1987 album titled They're All Gonna Laugh at You!, he was not so successful and so a career change led him to films and appearances that started in 1989.

The actor’s first role was in the film Going Overboard, impressed by the actor producers cast him for other roles in the early nineties starting with the 1992 film Shakes the Clown. Sandler then featured in Coneheads, Mixed Nuts, and Airheads.

In 1995 Sandler took on to more than acting when he wrote script of the film Billy Madison in addition to being the lead character, in the next 1996 film titled Happy Gilmore Sandler retained the double role of actor and script writer. This was Sandler’s claim to fame as not only his creative skills were applauded but the role of Happy Gilmore in the same titled film showcased the actor’s humorous side and began his long-standing career as a comedy act.

Other film credits by Sandler as an actor, producer and writer include The Wedding Singer in 1998, The Waterboy, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, Little Nicky, The Animal Townie, The King of Queens , Jack & Jill Jack , 50 First Dates and Anger Management.

Sandler is the founder and owner of Happy Madison Productions, a film producing company that went into business in 1999, under the label Sandler has produced and directed films like Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, Spanglish, Funny People, The Hot Chick, The Benchwarmers, Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo with the last two productions starring Rob Schneider.

The comedian, musician, film producer and actor has been husband to Jackie Sandler since 2003.
