Angelina Jolie Biography
Famous actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie, date of birth was June 4 1975, in Los Angeles, California, USA was originally named Angelina Jolie Voight. Her parents were actors and she naturally followed on in the same career despite the fact that she had wanted to pursue mortuary science and become a funeral director. Jolie’s father John Voight is German-Czechoslovak and her mother Marcheline Bertrand, deceased, was French Canadian. She studied at the El Rodeo Elementary School, and then went to Beverley Hills High School before graduating with a film degree from the New York University. In addition to her degree Jolie had taken up film classes and occasionally performed at the Lee Strasburg Theatre Institute. With her academic background and experience in film she was ready to venture into the acting business.
She got into modelling at the age of 14 but was not as successful partly due to her skinny, bespectacled look and braces that she wore. Years later and a turned beauty with exotic looks, she modelled in major cities of the world like New York and London.
At the age of 16 Jolie played her first role in ‘Lookin to get Out’, a production that she did with her father in 1982. From there she took up roles in other films including ‘Gyborg 2’, ‘Girl Interrupted’, and ‘Hackers’, all of them less successful and less publicized. It was after her 2001 hit film ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’, that Jolie made a name for herself and earned millions of dollars.
In the same year the actress was made the UN Goodwill Ambassador, a title and role that demanded her involvement in projects to help refugees and other displaced persons all over the world. Initially she had been touched by the suffering of natives in Cambodia while on a film shoot there. Jolie resorted to helping them and with her newly earned title she visited countries like Cambodia, Kenya and Tanzania, at times staying there for months as she offered her help.
Her humanitarian efforts have been largely successful and have expanded with the help of her fellow celebrity friends. Jolie has hit the media headlines with much controversy after she went on to adopt three children from struggling families in Ethiopia, Cambodia and Vietnam. The adoption of the each of the children named Maddox, Zahara and Pax was finalised and she now lives with them and her three biological children named Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.
Jolie also raised further speculation when she supposedly got into a relationship with ‘Mr & Mrs Smith’ co-star Brad Pitt while he was still married to actress Jennifer Aniston. No confirmation was given by either parties, however they made their relationship public after it was discovered that Jolie was pregnant with Pitt’s baby. The couple still lives together.
From the onset of her career, the actress has been praised by fans and critics for her exotic looks. People Magazine voted her one of ‘100 Sexiest People’ in 2006 and was voted the ‘Greatest Sex Symbol’ on British Television in 2007. The actress ranks high not only in beauty but in awards won for her performances over the years. She won the ‘Best Supporting Actress Award’ and ‘Best Performance by Actress Award’ in the 1998 and 1999 Golden Globe Awards respectively. She also got an Academy Award nomination for her 2009 role in the movie ‘Changeling’ and a Golden Globe Award nomination for her role in the 2010 film ‘The Tourist’.
Jolie loves Walt Disney cartoon characters and the Animal Planet series. She also loves tattoos.
