Anne Hathaway Biography
Star actress of the popular ‘The Devil Wears Prada’, Anne Jacqueline Hathaway uses her stage name Ann Hathaway, she hails from Brooklyn, New York, USA where she was born on November 12 1982. Hathaway was schooled at the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, the Wyoming Elementary School in Millburn, the Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York and finally she graduated from the New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a degree in English.
As a child she loved being on stage and she spent most of her time backstage at her mother’s film shoots. Her parents, Kathleen McCauley and Gerald Thomas Hathaway noticed her potential and so they encouraged her to cast for as many productions as she could as long as her education was not interfered with. By the time Hathaway was a teenager she was already and accomplished actress with numerous roles under her belt. Some of them included ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ at the Barrow Group Theater where she stole the show in a play that received widespread approval.
In 2001 Hathaway made a debut in film mainly as a children’s film actress, her first role was in ‘The Princess Diaries’ where she gained a huge following of child and teen fans after the successful premiere of the film in the American box office. Following the success of this film its producers begun filming for a follow up movie that saw Hathaway reprise the role of Mia Thermopolis in 2004 in ‘Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’. On the premiere night the film grossed close to 100 million dollars, twice the amount that had been used for production.
After the success of the Princess Diaries sequels Hathaway went on to appear in the high profile films ‘Brokeback Mountain’ and ‘Havoc’, she received even higher reviews from film critics as well as from her growing fan base. It if from here that Hathaway joined the list of Hollywood sex symbols, greatly admired for their looks and darlings of the male fans. It was however not all praise as a lot of controversy arose over the actress’ association with the films, Hathaway was condemned for her appearance in graphic scenes of ‘Havoc’ at times completely nude. For her role in the famous ‘Brokeback Mountain’ film Hathaway did not miss out on the criticism that was thrown on its cast for supporting gay relationships.
Hathaway has worked in other numerous films like ‘Hoodwinked!’, ‘The Other Side of Heaven’, Enchanted’ ‘The Cat Returns’, ‘Nicholas Nickleby’, ‘Bride wars’, ‘Passengers’ and ‘Getting Smart’ among others.
She is however popular for her role in 2006’s ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ alongside Meryl Streep, in the comedy Hathaway played a geek-like assistant to a ruthless fashion editor, her role often got into trouble for being clumsy and lacking in style but later she grew to become a respected employee and found out that she shared a lot of similarities with her ruthless boss.
Hathaway’s latest roles are in ‘Through the Looking Glass’, ‘Valentine’s Day’ and ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ all of which premiered in 2010.
