Arnold Schwarzenegger Biography
Army kid Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger was born to Gustav Schwarzenegger and Aurelia Jadrny on July 30 1947 in a remote region of Thal in Austria. His was a family that did not tolerate ways outside Catholicism and any attempt at mischief was rewarded with a beating. Schwarzenegger had an active childhood as a farm boy who played too much at the expense of his education. His school time was spent away from class in soccer pitches and in local movie halls which were a common feature or the village.
As a young adult Schwarzenegger was bullied for his rare name and also because he developed much slower than his peers. For a long time he stayed isolated and hidden from public view unless it was for a soccer game or for an acting event that he could not miss. After going through the early years as a shy and sad teenager he decided to do something about his physique and so at his mid-teens he became a regular client at a local makeshift gym in order to build on his muscles. His resilience won and the outcome was a large chested man who was a pale reflection of his past. He took part in various contests in his neighbourhood and established himself as an unrivalled competitor winning the Mr. Olympia title every year from 1970 to 1975 before the trend was cut and later continued in 1985.
His fame was however set in the film industry, in 1970 he made a debut in film as a strongman in the film ‘Hercules’, the success of this production became the star’s successful career beginning after his performance received high reviews and a growing fan base for the actor was set in motion. Other hit films by the actor in the 70’s decade include ‘The Long Goodbye’, ‘Stay Hungry’ and ‘Pumping Iron’. He scooped a Best New Male Star Award at the 1976 Golden Globe Awards for his outstanding role in ‘Staying hungry’.
Schwarzenegger’s streak of fame continued into the 80’s with films such as ‘The Running Man’, ‘The Terminator’, ‘Conan the Destroyer’, ‘Red Heat’, ‘Raw deal’ and well as the famous ‘Commando’ film.
The 90’s 2000’s parts of his career is linked to the hit films ‘Collateral Damage’, ‘The 6th day’, ‘End of Days’, ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’, and ‘Batman & Robin’ in 1997.
Now he is fondly referred to as the ‘Governator’ for his role as the Governor of California from 2003 to 2009.
Controversy about Schwarzenegger arose in 1977 when alleged reports of the use of performance boosters reached the media he was repeatedly questioned by the organisers of body building competitions until he revealed a long-time us of steroids. This was confirmed by a medical report and he was forced to disappear from the limelight for a couple of years before his comeback. His use of the drug was confirmed critical and he was warned of an impending death if he continued using the enhancers. Schwarzenegger remained adamant and even took legal action against the medical personnel.
Schwarzenegger has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin.
