Billie Piper Biography
Billy Piper became a household name in the U.K as a teen pop sensation in the late 90’s, she released he first album titled Honey to the B 1n 1998 when she was only 16. The album’s songs became a radio and club favourite, topping music charts all over the U.K. From her album came four hit singles namely ‘Honey to the Bee’, ‘Because We Want To’, ‘She Wants You’ and ‘Girlfriend’ all of which went on to feature in top ten positions in U.K music charts. The album release made Piper the youngest producing artist ever signed by Virgin records and the U.K Billboard success of her singles put her in record as the youngest artist to achieve the fete in a quarter of a century.
Originally named Lianne Piper after her birth on September 22 1982 in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, UK, her first love was the theatre and she dreamt of becoming an actress, Piper’s interest in acting was evident to her parents from the time she was young and so in support of her talent they enrolled her at the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Swindon where she begun to learn the basics of film before she graduated to the Sixth Sense theatre company.
Piper graduated from Broadway to television in the 90’s appearing on several small shows until a breakthrough that saw her appear on ‘Doctor Who’ a series that had been on television from 1963, in 2005 and at 23 years old she played Rose Tyler, a supporting actress to the show’s star. Her time on the show led to a media frenzy that pushed her to instant fame, she was highly review by critics and a fan base in her name begun to grow. She was honoured by the BBC as one of 2005’s Faces of the Year, she also walked away with two consecutive awards at the National Television Awards in 2005 and also in 2006 for Most Popular Actress.
Despite her success, Piper quit the show in 2006. A change of heart saw Piper’s return to the show where she reprised her role until the season finale in 2010.
The actress her made a name on television show and her other roles can be seen on ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ and ‘The Intimate Adventures of a London Call Girl’, her roles in the two shows became controversial as she was filmed on scenes that consisted of very graphic sexual acts. The actress insisted that she was comfortable in her own skin and that the roles were depictions of the real life happenings in the call girl business.
Film credits by the actress include ‘The Ruby in the Smoke’, ‘The Shadow in the North’, ‘Mansfield Park’, ‘The Calcium Kid’ and ‘Things to do Before You're Thirty’. The star’s equal success in music has been greatly praised as she has shown versatility and an ability to work with whatever comes her way.
Piper is a mother of one with her long time love Laurence Fox.
