Brandon Flowers Biography
The beginnings of Brandon Flowers can be traced to the Henderson region of Nevada, USA where he spent his formative years as Brandon Richard Flowers, a name originally given to him after his birth on June 21 1981. In his childhood he moved from one state to the next until he was left under the care of his grandmother who was a native of Las Vegas. Flowers was educated at the Juab High School in Utah from 1989 before joining the Chaparral High School in Las Vegas in 1999 but on being absorbed into the gambling life of Las Vegas he refused to attend classes and in the end he completely quit.
Still involved in the partying of Las Vegas he took up a job in one of the casinos where he worked his shift and right after he would join the tables and gamble away his earnings. With no clear purpose or career plan in his life Flowers was taken under the wings of his elder brother who took up the sole responsibility of looking after the unfocused teen. Sixteen at the time Flowers developed an interest in music after stumbling across his brother’s music collection. He listened to the songs, liked what he heard and there and then Flowers knew that his calling was in music.
Flowers short-lived stints with several bands before landing a permanent spot in band named The Killers in 2002 as the piano player. His place in the band was greatly applauded by his parents who made a point of taking the front row at almost all his performances. The band was mainly involved in event performances and night clubs especially gay clubs where their looks and songs had earned the a growing fan base, songs from The Killers had a feel of pop rock and New Wave music styles.
The band released an album in 2005 titled Hot fuss and it features singles like ‘Mr. Bright Side’. ‘Somebody Told Me’, ‘Andy ,You Are a Star’
While in the band speculation arose over Flowers being bisexual, he neither confirmed nor denied the rumours although he confessed that one of the band’s singles was a narration of a high school experience with a male schoolmate. The Killers band members were also pulled into the controversy as reports of sexual relations among them begun to surface. Rumours of Flowers’ offstage relationships with some of his male fans had also surfaced but no confirmed reports were published.
In 2010 Michael produced a solo project titled Flamingo went platinum instantly selling over seven million albums, the hit single ‘Crossfire’ flew to the top of U.K music charts and retained the spot for weeks. The success of the album and the hit single ‘Crossfire’ won Flowers Best Male Artist award at the 2010 Q Awards, the single was also nominated for Best Video and Most Stylish at the Shockwave NME Awards in 2011.
Besides the piano, Flowers is an accomplished guitar and bass player.
Flowers is very religious, enjoys playing golf during his free time and his favourite food is Mexican.
