Cameron Diaz Biography
Cameron Diaz first hit the limelight as a runway and fashion model while working under the prestigious Elite Model Management after a casting agent approached with his card during an event she had attended. In 1988 she left the U.S for the runways of Japan where she had a successful career modelling for Levi and Calvin Klein for their new lines that were being introduced to the Japanese market. On her return she continued to take high- profile jobs for her agency and modelled from New York to Paris, Morocco and Australia.
She was featured in English, American and French fashion magazines including Seventeen magazine and French-based Mademoiselle magazine. Cameron’s beauty and figure worked to her advantage and she was picked to appear in campaigns for big companies in Europe such as Coca Cola. This career was however short lived as in 1993 she decided to venture into her second passion, which is film.
She was born with a multiple heritage that included Cuban, American, German and English blood, and when her parents, Billie Early and Emilio Diaz bore her on August 30 1972 they named her Cameron Michelle Diaz. At the time the family lived in San Diego, California, USA and Cameron lived a fairly comfortable life as any other teen and she took part in school performances that pulled crowds.
Cameron’s first contact with the camera was in 1994 when she was cast for the lead role in a comedy titled ‘The Mask’, a new and inexperienced Diaz was surprisingly able to carry her role and in the process received wide spread applause. The first half of the 90’s decade saw a career up turn for Diaz as she was featured in ‘Feeling Minnesota’, ‘The Last Supper’ and ‘Head Above Water’. The films were less publicised and did poorly in the box office.
2001 was a successful year for Diaz as she got the role of Lucy Liu, a crime fighter in the popular series ‘Charlie’s Angels’, the television series went on to become her breakthrough project and a growing fan base identified with the sexy blonde.
Another of her famous roles is in the 2001 movie ‘Shrek’ where she voiced princess Fiona, she reprised the role in 2003 and 2007 with the release of ‘Shrek 2’ and ‘Shrek the Third’ respectively.
Cameron has been called a diva over her attitude and lateness, she refuses to wash with anything but bottled mineral water. She is germophobic and was diagnosed with an obsessive compulsive disorder that is related to her fear of germs she cleans her surroundings numerous times in an effort to remain spotlessly clean.
She has been accused of riding on her looks to get by as she is unable to express herself well. Controversies surrounding the actress include an alleged battering of paparazzi and rumours of her nude pictures on the internet have surfaced on various occasions.
Diaz is one of the richest female actresses in the film industry and her earnings are estimated to be around 20 million dollars putting her on the same level as ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ co-star Julia Roberts.
