Celine Dion Biography
Celine Dion is by far one of the greatest legends that have ever graced the music industry within the last 30 years. With timeless singles like ‘My Heat Will Go On’ and ‘A New day has Come’ among many more she remains one of the most respected and best-selling artists around the world decades after she began her career. Dion’s origin can be traced to Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada where she was born Ciline Marie Claudette Dion on March 30 1968 to mixed race couple Thirhse Tanguay and Adhimar Dion. Coming from a French-Canadian descent and a line of very religious ancestors Dion practised Catholicism along with her large family of sixteen and life for the whole family revolved around music and listening to records from classical artists like Hugues Aufray during their free time.
Times were hard for the Dion household as Adhimar Dion and Thirhse Tanguay could barely make ends meet for their fourteen children on the meagre earnings from a music bar they owned. Still the family did not anguish in their lacking and instead they turned to music for solace. Dion’s love for singing began as a necessity to get through her suffering but it soon became much more when at barely five years she decided to pursue singing as a career. She immediately ventured into performing for eager crowds at neighbourhood entertainment spots before the rest of her siblings and parents joined on stage as the Dion Family touring music group.
The family band became a hit in Canada and young Dion was seen as the main force behind its success, at the age of twelve she went solo with the release of a 1980 debut album titled La Voix du bon Dieu. This production was an instant hit in Canada and in French speaking countries but despite her fame Dion felt that her look did not portray her as the female singer she wanted to be and so after a couple corrective surgeries on her teeth and vocal chords she reappeared as a beauty and with better control of her vocal range. The La Voix du bon Dieu album included hit singles like ‘ Don’t Go Without Me’ and ‘ Of Love or of Friendship’, she was listened to from as far as Asia, America, Europe and numerous awards were given in Australia and France for her efforts.
For her contribution to the music industry Dion has been honoured with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Canada Walk of Fame. Besides singing Dion has established herself as a perfume designer with her latest line, Pure Brilliance going to the market in 2010. She has also had roles in films like All My Children, The Nanny and Touched by an Angel.
Her music is mixes several music genres like pop rock, contemporary and soft rock. Dion is a mother of two, twins born to her and her husband and long-time manager Rene Angelil in 2010.
