Charlie Sheen Biography
Charlie Sheen’s career in acting was rather expected as he came from a line of film stars starting with his parents and his siblings, his career and personal life have been of interest to the media and public for years now and some of the headlines on tabloids have been on not only his success as an actor but also on his struggles with drugs and relationship failures. Sheen was originally named Carlos Irwin Estevez by his parents Janet Templeton and Martin Sheen after he was born on September 3 1965 in New York City, New York, USA.
His was a family that spent time moving from one film set to another as the Estevez parents tried to keep up with their acting jobs, Sheen’s first exposure to the world of movies traces back to the time he was barely a year old. He always had a backstage pass to sets where his parents worked and he was known by all the crew that adored the young child. After observing the on goings behind the scenes he developed an interest for the art and soon he was taking part in school theatre productions and after he would go and ask his parents for a role in one of their films.
Sheen went to school at the Santa Monica High School in Santa Monica, California where he was an excellent student in the sports field and in acting departments in the classroom though he was a constant absentee and his grades were never good. As a teenager Sheen was rebellious and spent most of his time in drug related groups, by the age of 17 he was a heavy drug user and two years later he became a teen father after an affair with a neighbourhood girlfriend.
With the new responsibility in his life Sheen was forced to clean his act and he decided to venture into acting full-time, his entry into film was fairly easy as he had experience in previous roles in minor films and through his father’s connections Sheen was able to get casting for several productions. His first role came in 1984 with the premiere of the film Red Hawk, the production was a major success in the America box office and it quickly became a teen favourite. Sheen then took up other roles in big films like Platoon, Wall Street, Grizzly II: The Predator, Three for the Road, No Man’s Land, Catchfire and Eight Men Out.
With his acting career in the ranks Sheen took on to script writing and direction his own films like Discovery Mars and No Code of Conduct, he also began appearing in comedies Hot Shots! and Money Talks.
Sheen’s most famous career act came in the 2003 television series titled Two and a Half Men, his Character was Charlie Harper, a womanising and party loving guy who tried to keep a balance between his active social life and giving a good example to his young nephew while causing constant trouble for his brother and their housekeeper. The series was shown until 2010 and it is set to air again in 2011.
The actor has been controversial over a drug and alcohol problem that has threatened his career and he has also been involved in numerous scandals over short-lived relationships with various celebrities.
Despite his troubles Sheen was voted one of the wealthiest television acts in 2010 and he remains the highest paid actor today.
