American singer, songwriter and actress Christina Marie Aguilera, stage name Christina Aguilera is the first-born child of mixed race parents Shelly Loraine and Fausto Xavier. Aguilera’s birth town is in Staten Island, New York, USA and her date of birth is December 18 1980. Coming from an abusive home she was raised by her mother who noticed her talent when Christina was as young as eight years old. Shelly encouraged her daughter to pursue acting and even let her audition for small productions and talent shows in every state that the family moved to. In addition Christina’s mother enrolled her for piano and violin classes and soon Christina started to write her own lyrics, mostly as a let out and narration of the difficulties she experienced in her home.
She was educated at Marshall Middle School before joining North Allegheny Intermediate School where her musical talent was shared in various school performances and openings of the school games. Over the next years from age eight to ten Christina made appearances in small productions like ‘Star Search’ where she sung and competed against other contestants on National Television.
Her break into the entertainment scene came in 1991 after she was cast alongside Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears in Disney Channel’s musical show titled ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’. The show was a favourite of many teens in the US and around the world and Christina became a famous name in entertainment due to her catchy voice. She appeared on the show for the next four years before her career came to a halt.
Christina made her comeback with her 1998 debut album titled ‘Christina Aguilera’. The album received a lot of praise and hit singles like ‘Genie in a Bottle’ topped music charts all over the world. The album sold millions of copies and became one of the most successful in the US that year. The album was rated multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA.
She has worked with artists like Ricky Martin, Lil Kim and Mya. Her music blends RnB, soul, hip-hop and pop-rock styles
The singer has been on the headlines over controversial issues ranging from her nude pictures on the media, her suggestive videos and she has been rumoured to be gay. Her single titled ‘I Am Beautiful’ raised even more controversy after the lyrics suggested her sexuality and the video featured a gay couple.
The singer was the wife to Jordan Bratman and the couple tied the knot in 2005. The couple have one child.
She draws her inspiration from singers Etta Jones and Whitney Houston. Christina loves the musical film ‘The Sound of Music’. She has modelled for top designer American designer Versace and has worked with Sony Ericksson in their product campaigns. The singer has two perfume lines named ‘Xpose’ and ‘Simply Christina’.
Christina is a vocal animal rights campaigner and has done extensive humanitarian work in support of cancer patients as well as the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti. She works with UNICEF to provide food for needy people around the world.
Christina has made several film appearances such as the film ‘Burlesque’ in 2010. The singer has been rated one of the richest entertainers of all time and her voice is compared to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston
