Colin Farrell Biography
Colin Farrell is the 34 year old hunky star behind numerous crime fighter characters in many of Hollywood’s film productions this heartthrob has been gracing the entertainment scene for fifteen years now starting with a debut act in 1996. Farrell is the son to Eamon Farrell and Rita Monaghan he was originally named Colin James Farrell after he was born on May 31 1976 in Dublin, Ireland.
Farrell graduated at the Gormanston College in Dublin although he had previously received his education at the Castleknock College in Castleknock and the St. Brigid's National School also in Castleknock. The Farrell household was filled with football fanatics, all but young Farrell enjoyed going for local matches where Eamon Farrell participated in one of the teams, for the young boy there was nothing more he dreaded than the singing and cheering for the players since he did not see the exciting thing behind kicking after a ball for hours.
The only thing that Farrell seemed to like was the annual Christmas performances in the local Catholic church where the family was part of the dedicated crowd, he made a point to appear in the plays each year and with so much enthusiasm that his parents decided to enrol him for acting lessons. Farrell joined other students at The Gaiety School of Acting, he spent several years there mainly appearing in the school’s theatre productions.
After a while he advanced to minor television roles and film appearances in uncredited films like The Disappearance of Finbar in 1996, Drinking Crude in 1997, and The War Zone in 1999. Farrell gained fame with his 1998 role of Danny Byrne in the television drama series Ballykissangel, although the show did not go high profile his continued appearance until 1999 made him a familiar and remembered face on television. In 1998 Farrell was also featured in novel adaptation film titled Falling for a Dancer, this act did not make profit after the premiere and the actor had to wait until 1999 when a role in film The War Zone made him a household name.
Riding on his new fame Farrell accepted a role in the film Ordinary Decent Criminal in 2000 and then in Tigerland, the appearance in the latter film became the actor’s biggest breakthrough yet and he was honoured with a Best Actor award by the Boston Society of Film Critics as well as a Newcomer of the Year award by the London Film Critics. Farrell’s role as Private Roland would mark the beginning of many more that would give him the trademark character of a police officer in following films.
The beginning of the 2000’s opened Farrell’s door to many higher budget films including American Outlaws, Hart's War, Minority Report, Phone Booth, The Recruit, Daredevil, Veronica Guerin, S.W.A.T., A Home at the End of the World, The New World, and Ask the Dust.
In 2006 Farrell was at the top of media headlines after he premiered the film Miami Vice, the cop film won him a Best Actor award from the Irish Film & Television Awards. In 2010 Farrell was seen in The Way Back and in 2011 he will feature in Horrible Bosses and Fright Night.
