Courtney Love Biography
Courtney Michelle Harrison goes by the professional name Courtney Love and hers has been a career filled with much controversy as it has been with success. The origins of this star go back to July 9 1964 in San Francisco, California, USA where she was born to Hank Harrison and Linda Carroll. In the beginning Love’s life was lived in wealth courtesy of a rich line of relatives on her mother’s side, this would however change when she turned five years old.
First it was a bitter divorce of her parents, then abandonment by her single mother. This was a trying period for the young girl and it was not long before she found herself drawn to the life of alcohol, partying and crime. By the time Love had reached teenage hood she had a criminal record to her name and a stint at the University of Oregon was followed an early marriage that did not last long. Despite all the happenings in her life she still found the time to engage in ballet which was her passion, this was not surprising to her family since many of them had been involved in showbiz starting with her great grandmother who was a script writer, her grandmother who was a novelist.
In 1978 and at the age of fourteen, Love had her first contact with music in an instance of a bad situation that turned good. At the time Love was on juvenile lockup after a theft incident, at the jail she listened to a rock tape and from there the love for the music grew. After deciding to pursue a career in music she moved from San Francisco to New Zealand and later to England and Japan all in a bid to get a breakthrough. Times were hard and at 16 Love had to finance her studies at the Trinity College in Dublin and other needs by working as a stripper in local pubs.
In 1982 Love’s career begun as a backup singer for a band named Faith No More, two years on and she had a brief stint in another band named Sugar Babydoll. Taking drugs and failing classes at the Portland State University, then the San Francisco State University and finally the San Francisco Art Institute Love’s life was on a downhill. In 1989 Love formed the band Hole and this would last until 2002. She released a band album titled Pretty on the Inside in 1991 and it featured singles like ‘Retard Girl’ and ‘Dicknail’.
Following albums by the singer’s band were Live Through This in 1994 and Celebrity Skin in 1998. Following an eight year break, Love’s band regrouped and released a 2010 album titled Nobody's Daughter.
Love has also made a name in film and some of her roles have been in Not Bad for a Girl, Kurt & Courtney, Bounce: Behind the Velvet Rope, Mayor of the Sunset Strip, and Crossover.
Love’s music is of genres in punk rock, alternative rock, and post-grunge. She is an accomplished guitar and keyboard player.
