Daniel Wroughton Craig, stage name Daniel Craig achieved fame for being one of the names and faces behind the long-running James Bond sequels alongside the film’s previous actors like Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery and Roger Moore, his is a love for the stage that was evident from the time he was as young as five years old. His parents Carol Olivia and Timothy Wroughton Craig bore him on March 2 1968 in Chester, Cheshire, England, UK and he was schooled at the Holy Trinity Primary School in Hoylake, the National Youth Theatre in London, England and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama also in London.
After his fourth birthday Carol Olivia and Timothy Craig separated and young Craig was left under the guardianship of his mother, with only one parent to support him with her meagre earnings from teaching in a local art school, Craig was encouraged to concentrate on his academics as it seemed to be the only redemption from a life of lacking. But the young talent had other things in mind he knew that his career would be on a stage and not in an office with a white collar job.
So he went against the wishes of his mother at the age of sixteen by quitting his high school and joining performing groups at local theatres. In 1992, his talent earned him lead roles in Broadway shows like Oliver, Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet. Seeing his obvious talent Carol Olivia begun to support her son and moved the family to London in order to expose Craig to better opportunities. They did not come easy and Craig had to survive by working as a waiter and living in deplorable conditions.
Persistence and patience paid off as in 1996 Craig was cast in the lead role for Friends in the North, after the series aired Craig was put at the centre of attention with part of the media, critics and audiences loving his performance while the other part dismissing his role as in their opinion he appeared as the typical English snob. Whatever the opinions Craig’s publicity got him even bigger roles in films like Obsession, Ice House, Love Is the Devil: Study for a Portrait of Francis Bacon and Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Daredevils of the Desert. By the end of the decade Craig was a household name in entertainment.
He begun the following decade with a high profile role alongside actress Angelina Jolie in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, with even more fame and earnings Craig continued on a lucky streak with roles in Road to Perdition, Sword of Honour, Enduring Love, Infamous, The Golden Compass, Layer Cake and Munich.
His captivating stage presence brought in prestigious nominations in the London Film Critics, the Empire Awards, the European Film Awards, the European Film Audience, Saturn Awards and the BAFTA Awards.
