Daniel Radcliffe Biography
As a multi-millionaire actor and the famous face behind the popular Harry Porter sequels, Daniel Radcliffe retains a humble personality that does little to reflect the success and wealth his has amassed from his role in the billion dollar films. He was schooled up to high school at the City of London School and also attended the Sussex House School for his primary education. The actor was born Daniel Jacob Radcliffe to Marcia Jeannine Gresham and Alan George Radcliffe on July 23 1989 in Hammersmith, London, England, UK.
The box office had always been a passion that was shared by his family and Radcliffe’s parents had taken up several productions in their separate careers as casting agents. Jacob and Marcia were keen to initiate their son in the family tradition by making sure that he went to work with them and that he carefully observed how the film industry was conducted. By the time Radcliffe could talk he had become a frequent visitor at his mother’s films and he had mastered the goings of the backstage crew and he was a favourite of all the staff that worked there.
Radcliffe started to audition for roles in films when he was barely six but he was never featured in highly publicized productions, he however kept on until his first big role came 1999 as David Copperfield in a movie that was titled that was also title ‘David Copperfield’. In the same year Radcliffe appeared on the film ‘Tailor of Panama’.
His career took a turn in the same year when he heard about the casting of and upcoming film that would be based on the Harry Porter novel, it caught his interest as a previous role in a novel based film had been successful. Although worried about his young age and even being let into the casting room Radcliffe took a chance on his minimal experience in film and went for the auditions. Afterwards he left convinced that his effort was futile, on the other hand the film director and the brains behind the project J.K Rowling was impressed and she asked the casting directors to call the youngster.
A surprised Radcliffe was informed of his impressive stage presence and was immediately pulled into a busy filming schedule in 2000 for the film ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone’. The premiere was in 2001 and on the opening night it made sales of over 140 million dollars. Radcliffe became an instant celebrity for his lead role as Harry Porter, a child-wizard with a destiny to fight fellow wizards and demons that were targeting him for his un-rivalled powers. Critics and tabloids were in full praise for the star and his maturity in the film, despite his age was credited as one of the reasons for the film’s success.
Radcliffe reprised his role in the following films titled ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’, ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’), ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2.
The actor can also be seen in 2011’s ‘The Journey is the Destination’ and ‘The Woman in Black’. Radcliffe campaigns for the rights of gays in the UK as well Tsunami victims for whom he has raised millions of dollars.
