Drew Barrymore Biography
Drew Blyth Barrymore is one of the latest in line of a showbiz family that comprises of Barrymore actors and actresses, who go back to more than five generations. She was inducted into the family passion even before attaining the age of one and for the celebrity the drive for acting, modelling and producing films may as well be flowing in her veins.
She appears in entertainment as Drew Barrymore and her roots trace back to Culver City, California, USA where she was born on February 22 1975. Barrymore was born to John Drew Barrymore and Ildiks Jaid Barrymore, both were established actors who wasted no time in teaching their daughter the tools of the acting trade. Although her parents went separate ways soon after she was born young Barrymore did not lose touch with acting as her father and god-father Steven Spielberg, a noted film director coached her and supported her interest in film.
Barrymore’s entry in entertainment came at eleven months when she appeared in a television advert, this was followed by the film Altered States in 1980, she played a child character in a role that was greatly applauded and the young girl was predicted to be the next big thing in film. She continued on with an active child career that attracted a lot of media buzz and gained the actress a lot of wealth.
All was not well however as before Barrymore got to ten years she begun to break under the effects of handling all the fame as a child, her escape came in cigarettes and beer and soon enough she had moved to stronger doses of drugs like cocaine. With the media spotlight aimed at her Barrymore went deeper into addiction in the 80’s and she abandoned her academics and film career instead opting to spend time in one party after the next. At the time controversy arose over her conduct in public where many a times she would appear topless for the cameras, pictures of her completely nude begun to circulate in tabloids like Interview magazine and Playboy magazine.
Continuing with acting despite failed attempts at cleaning up in rehab, Barrymore featured in award winning films in the 80’s including E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Irreconcilable Differences, Babes in Toyland, See You in the Morning, and Far From Home.
In the 90’s decade Barrymore was featured in the films 2000 Malibu Road, Sketch Artist, Waxwork II: Lost in Time, Poison Ivy, No Place to Hide, Bad Girls, Mad Love, Batman Forever, Scream, and Best Men.
1998 was a successful year for Barrymore as her roles in the films Wedding Singer and Ever After sealed her ability to act in comedy and girly flicks which were a stark different from her previous character roles that showed her as a troubled teenager. Barrymore won the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss for the Wedding Singer and the Blimp Award for Favorite Movie Actress for Ever After.
In 1995 Barrymore co-founded a film production company named Flower Films, under the label she produced films like Never Been Kissed, He's Just Not That into You, Going the Distance, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and 50 First Dates. Latest films under the production of Barrymore were Whip it in 2009 and He's Just Not That into You also in 2009.
