Tough girl actor Eva Mendes is known for taking roles that portray strong characters that are usually left to the male actors on film. Unlike many celebrities who take up multiple roles in entertainment hers has mainly been a story of acting and an art well perfected throughout the years. Born on March 5 1974 in Miami, Florida USA to immigrant parents, the Cuban film sensation spent her early years in Glendale, Los Angeles with her single mother. Life was a struggle because she was not a native of America and her mother had to work tirelessly to provide for the family. Growing up Mendes knew that she loved to act but she had no interest in pursuing the art since most of the female actresses she had seen on television were striking beauties, something she did not see in herself at the time.
Mendes was schooled at the Hover high School and at the California State University where she took up business marketing courses. School was a difficult experience for Mendes as she was under scrutiny and bullying because of her heritage and her unflattering looks. Still a determined woman she kept on and soon decided to prove her peers wrong by taking on acting as a career in 1998. At the time she was 24,in experienced and with no roles to talk of, she however got an acting coach and soon ventured into film after greatly impressing a talent scout.
She got to play in front of the camera in 1998’s ‘A Night at Roxbury’ and in the same year she was also featured on ‘Exit Wounds’. After this the media put a glare on Mendes and the public fell in love with the sexy star. She became an inspiration to women around the world who associated with her character portrayal of a strong woman. Her Latina looks served to make her a sex icon greatly admired by many. In 2001 Mendes acted alongside Denzel Washington in the police, crime film ‘Training Day’ in 2001. Other roles by the actress came on ‘Once Upon A Time in Mexico’ alongside Antonio Banderas, ‘Out of Time’, ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ and ‘Stuck With You’.
The actress’ first role was in ‘Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror’, a fairly successful film and she also made an appearance on the very successful film titled ‘Urban Legends: Final Cut’ in 1998. In the 2000’s Mendes had a career turner that saw her play on highly publicized films like ‘Ghost Rider’, ‘The Spirit’, ‘We Own the Night’, ‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans’. Her most recent work was on the 2010 film titled ‘Last Night’ and ‘The Other Guys’ also in the same year.
Mendes’ career has involved work with acclaimed actors like Johnny Depp, Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicolas Cage and actress Scarlet Johansson.
Besides acting she has worked with various modelling companies to promote their products, one such company is Revlon Cosmetics International and Australian Fashion and Beauty Events.
Mendes is a vegetarian and a vocal supporter of animal rights through the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA. She is also loves children and has written several books for them including the Crazy Leggs Beshee.
The controversial star has been in the media over nude photos on the internet and also for alleged drug abuse in2008.
