Eve Biography
Tough girl and one of entertainment’s top rap queens Eve Jihan Jeffers goes by the stage name Eve and she was born to Julia Wilch-Jeffers her mother and Jerry Jeffers on November 10 1978 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. She was schooled at the Martin Luther King High School in Philadelphia but most of her teenage life was spent performing in rap groups and school music competitions and events. Eve’s love for singing was evident from the time she was young and much to the surprise of her parents by the time she was ten she had already decided that hers would be a career in front from the microphone far away from her parents’ usual office jobs.
Jerry and Julia Jeffers realised that their daughter’s mind would not be changed so they decided to support her musical talent by allowing her to form performing groups with other talented peers in her school and neighbourhood. Life would soon turn painful for the young girl as her parents’ marriage was short-lived and by the time she was 12 her grandmother took on the role of part guardian to her as Julia Jeffers was unable to raise her daughter alone. As if the pain of seeing her parents was not enough the family was reduced to low-class and she had to take up odd jobs in order to get by, in addition to this she became rebellious and begun featuring regularly in strip bars and dancing at night clubs.
After leaving her club jobs in 1998 she ventured into a full time music career as a hip hop and RnB rapper and singer under the stage name Eve of Destruction as part of the Ruff Ryders label. A year later she began releasing her first singles like ‘What Ya Want’ from her debut album titled Let There Be EveRuff Ryders' First Lady, this album was an instant hit and positioned her as a talented black rapper who rivalled many of the male rappers already in the industry. The album featured collaborations with big artists of the time like DMX and Dr. Dre and did not have any appearance by a female musician since at the time Eve was the only female rapper under the Ruff Ryders recording label.
In 2001 Eve took on a new turn in her career with a second album titled Scorpion, the singles in this album featured female singers like Gwen Stefani and the public was able to see a softer side of the rapper as she took on to singing more instead of rapping. Listeners fell in love with this new side of Eve and voted her songs straight to the top of music charts, some of the singles in this album were ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ and ‘Who’s That Girl’. Within a few months Scorpion was rated platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America and for her effort she was awarded the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for the ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ single.
Eve’s other albums are titled Eve-Olution and Lip Lock and they were released in 2002 and 2011 respectively. Eve is also an actress and designer, her film roles include Barbershop, Barbershop 2: Back in Business, Whip It, The Cookout and Flashbacks of a Fool. She is the founder and owner of Fetish By Eve, an accessories and fashion clothing line that went into business in 2004.
