Frank Sinatra Biography

As a one-time holder of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Francis Albert Sinatra set himself apart in an acting and musical career that lasted for 60 years. Having never foot in a vocal class in his entire life, he was able to create a legacy purely on talent and passion that would not only be emulated by many but it would also serve as inspiration for upcoming stars in the following decades.

This icon is remembered by the stage name Frank Sinatra and the story of his life goes back to Hoboken, New Jersey, USA where he was born on December 12 1915. Sinatra’s parents were named as Antonino Martino Sinatra and Natalie Della Garaventa and they were staunch Catholics who held strong political affiliations in the 1920’s. The early life of Sinatra was not lacking in drama and this was attributed to the kind of environment that he was raised in.

As Sinatra grew up, he was at the centre of attention as was his family due to the fact that his mother and father were respected politicians. All was not squeaky clean as in the background there was an illegal makeshift hospital that had been established in the family home where young Sinatra lived. This was used by his mother to terminate the unwanted pregnancies of those that could pay well enough and keep silent about the business.

With such influences around him, Sinatra grew up as an unruly child and he had no value for education since his classes were barely attended. At one time, he had a stint at college that lasted for only several days before his parents were asked never to bring him back. The only thing that the young boy did without causing trouble was sing, his talent was so great that by the time he was eight local clubs featured him as a regular performer.

Sinatra started his singing career in 1935 as part of a band named The Three Flashes this was a short gig that lasted for only four years before he joined the Frank Mane band in 1939. A year later Sinatra took on vocals for the Dorsey band but this turned out to be a bad move as his barely established career dwindled in the 1940’s. After the unsuccessful run as a singer, Sinatra returned to the limelight in 1953 not as a musician but as an actor in the film drama From Here to Eternity.

This opened gateways for Sinatra and he went on to return to music with a 1961 debut album titled Ring-A-Ding-Ding, this was followed by more like Sinatra-Basie, Sinatra at the Sands, September of My Years, Ol' Blue Eyes Is Back, Trilogy: Past Present Future, Frank Sinatra's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, She Shot Me Down, and Duets.

Sinatra passed away on the 14th of May 1998 in Los Angeles, California, USA, at the time he was aged 82. Throughout his career, he was respected by all manner of royalty and dignitaries and even the average person knew who he was. Following Sinatra’s optimistic view to life, the markings ‘The Best Is Yet to Come’ were inscribed on his gravestone.

His music featured sounds of traditional pop, swing, and jazz.
