George Clooney Biography
Just like his brilliance in the film scene, George Clooney grew up as a disciplined child with good morals and an impressive track record in his academics he was also ahead of his peers in the baseball and basketball fields and a young star in all his school plays. Coming from generations of actors and actresses he was seen as an obvious film star right after he was born to Nina Warren and Nick Clooney on May 1969 in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. Clooney’s large family made sure that he was involved in their collective passion for the cameras. His parents, aunts and cousins made sure that he never missed a casting call for upcoming films and if he got the role they would always be at the front rows cheering on. An inborn talent for acting coupled with an army of mentors led Clooney to a dream of conquering the biggest film stages in the world.
Clooney was schooled at the St. Michael’s School, Columbus, the Blessed Sacrament School, Fort Mitchell and the St. Susanna School, Ohio all of which were schools that were meant to build a strong religious standing in young Clooney. For his college education Clooney was enrolled as a History major at the Northern Kentucky University, he graduated in 1981.
After college Clooney remained unpopular even after appearing on films and television series like ‘The Facts of Life’, ‘Roseanne’, ‘Centennial’ and ‘The Golden Girls’ all from the late 70’s to the early 90’s.
Clooney is remembered most for his role as a Las Vegas casino thief in the film ‘Oceans Eleven’ in 2001, a film that grossed over 400 million dollars at the box office and was Clooney’s highest paying job yet. He reprised the role of Danny Ocean in 2004s ‘Oceans Twelve’ and ‘Oceans Thirteen’ in 2007. For his act in the film Clooney was awarded the Best Dressed Award in the 2007 MTV Awards, he received nominations for the Best Cast Award in the Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards in 2004 and also a similar nomination in 2007 from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Other appearances by the actor have been in ‘Solaris’, ‘Confessions of a Dangerous Mind’, ‘Spy Kids’, ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ and ‘Welcome to Collinwood’ among others. Clooney also played the drama series ‘ER’ as Dr. Doug Ross from 1994 to 1999 and later reprised the role in 2009.
Clooney is a vocal supporter of human rights and he campaigns for the provision of basic necessities to persons in war-torn areas and those displaced by natural calamities around the world. Using his celebrity status he raises fund from his fellow stars and channels them towards helping the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the survivors of the long-standing Darfur war. These acts of generosity include visits to Southern Sudan to witness the living conditions of the people and in turn made him one of the most respected personalities around the world.
He has consistently featured in tabloids as one of the sexiest celebrities with a timeless look that rivals most of his fellow younger stars. He was People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2006 and also in 1997.
