Heidi Klum Biography
When G|nther and Erna Klum had their daughter Heidi Klum on June 1 1973 in Bergisch Gladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia, West Germany they hoped that she would follow on in one of their career fields of beauty and fashion. Little did they know that their daughter would not only do that but she would also go on to be one of the world’s most famous models, fashion designer, television personality and producer of an international designers show in addition to many other fetes.
While Klum was growing up, she was exposed to the happenings of the world of glamour since her father was a manufacturer of beauty products which would later be used at her mother’s hair salon. Fascinated by all this, Klum decided from early on that she would follow on by taking up fashion design. After high school graduation, Klum was admitted for training at a fashion design school but this would never be as she was immediately thrown into the limelight.
This came in 1992 after a modelling contest that Klum had reluctantly taken part in, as a budding beauty at the time she won over the judges and out of thousands of hopefuls Klum was announced the overall winner on national television. Life for the teenager would never be the same again.
Klum was offered a modelling contract that required for her to relocate to the US, once in New York she became highly demanded by clothing designers that wanted to work with her curvaceous body. Klum was signed on to work with prestigious lingerie designer Victoria’s Secret, her career as a lingerie model quickly rose and she was featured in many fashion tabloids modelling swimsuits. Some of these tabloids were Vogue, Elle, Sports Illustrated, Harper’s Bazaar, and Marie Claire. Klum’s contract with Victoria’s Secret continued until 2010 with her appearing as one of the top models in the yearly shows.
Klum has also had a few stints in acting and she has appeared in several television shows namely Yes Dear, How I Met Your Mother, Spin City, Sex and the City and her movie roles have been in The Devil Wears Prada, Blow Dry, and The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.
The celebrity has achieved fame for hosting her own reality show named Project Runway, the television series works with other noted names in fashion like the Parsons School of Design, Elle Magazine as well as selected guest judges from the fashion designers list. Here talented fashion designer wannabes are given an opportunity to showcase their skills and after a series of weekly eliminations three finalists are selected to show their debut lines at the New York fashion Week. The winner goes home with a cash prize to set up their own clothing line.
Klum’s other ventures include working as a judge at the sister show to America’s Next Top Model, based in Germany, the show is called Germany’s Next Top Model. Klum has been married to her musician husband Seal from 2005.
