Helena Bonham Carter Biography

Raymond Bonham Carter and Elena Propper de Callejsn had their daughter on May 26 1966 in Golders Green, London, and they named her Helena Bonham Carter, this young girl would go on to become a noted singer and actress with acclaimed fame in Hollywood as well as all around the world.

Carter’s heritage was one of heroic personalities who had gone into records for their political achievements that dated back to the early 1920’s, her parents were learned and wealthy and so she spent a life of luxury and fame even before her career had begun. It was expected that Carter would follow on in the aristocratic line of Barons and Baronesses and so she was trained on the mannerisms of an English lady in prestigious schools for the wealthy including the South Hampstead High School in Hampstead, London and the Westminster School in Westminster, London. Despite this Carter was a consistent poor performer and her interest in acting proved detrimental to her academics.

Despite living an enviable life she faced the hardships of any average child as her parents fell to tragic medical complications that left the young girl with nothing else to do but grow up first and take up responsibilities of her mother around the house. Luckily Carter’s mother attained a full recovery and she was able to aid the courageous girl.

At 16 and out of college Carter tried out her hand at television, although inexperienced and with no academic background in entertainment she was a star and in the process she discovered that this was after all her niche in life. A year later Carter got a role in the film Pattern of Roses, the 1983 debut act was greatly applauded and it formed the beginning of many roles that would seal her trademark depiction of strong females in leadership.

Her next role came in 1985 and it was a novel adaptation titled Room with a View, Carter also featured in the films Lady Jane, Maurice, Hazard of Hearts, Mask, Six Minutes with Ludwig, Francesco, and Getting It Right all in the 1980’s.

Many of Carter’s films were inspired by old English stories of aristocrats and their high lifestyle lives, in the 90’s decade she was cast for roles in Hamlet, Early Life of Beatrix Potter, Where Angels Fear to Tread, Brown Bear's Wedding, Howards End, Dancing Queen, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, and Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald. The latter film provided Carter’s first Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress for the lead role of Marina Oswald.

In 2001 Carter worked in collaboration with noted producer Tim Burton to come up with the million dollar film titled Planet of the Apes, other major roles were in Heart of Me, Big Fish, Henry VIII, Conversations with Other Women, Sixty Six, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

She came back in 2010 with yet another Tim Burton led production titled Alice in Wonderland, then King's Speech, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in 2011.
