Hugh Grant Biography

Born as the second child to Fyvola Susan Maclean and Captain James Murray Grant on September 9 1960, Hugh John Mungo Grant lived in his birth town of Hammersmith in London, England, UK. He went on to make a name for himself in the film industry as an actor and producer under the professional name Hugh Grant, his career has been in existence for 30 years starting in 1982.

Grant’s history is linked to a long line of descendants that were part of the British military and many of them enjoyed their lives in unimaginable wealth and aristocracy. And just like the life of his kin, Grant enjoyed a comfortable childhood that was financed by his father’s lucrative returns as a businessman and also as a captain in the army. For his education, Grant was enrolled at the Latymer Upper School in Hammersmith, London and the New College in Oxford, England. Grant’s parents’ were believers in the for an education and with the strict attitude of his army father and his mother’s teaching history, the young boy had nothing else to do but excel in his academics.

This proved to be an easy task for Grant as he established his superiority in the classroom in all his schools from the time he was admitted until he graduated with honours. Grant was such an excellent student that during his stay in his high school he placed the institution at the top spots in all inter-school quiz competitions. In addition to this, Grant was actively involved in sports and theatre productions, even on stage he was an equal genius. After completing his college education, many expected that the obvious career choice by Grant would be one in an office job. But the young boy had plans to venture into the big screens as an actor.

In 1982, Grant went into acting professionally but at the time he was based as a theatre actor. It was not until 1987 that he was cast for a role in the film titled Maurice this was a fairly easy transition for Grant as the story line of the film was an adaptation of a play that he had already acted in theatre. Grant was seen in more films including The Dawning, Remando al viento, Chopin in Impromptu, Bitter Moon, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Big Man, Our Sons, The Lair of the White Worm, and The Remains of the Day.

Demand for Grant to feature in films went on an all-time high in the 1990’s as producers were not only drawn to his obvious talent on set, they were also charmed by the actors exotic accent and his natural sense of humour that was translated to the films. More roles for Grant came in the films Extreme Measures, Notting Hill, About a Boy, Two Weeks Notice, Love Actually, and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.

When not on set, Grant takes part in numerous charity campaigns which include working with the Marie Curie Cancer Care foundation. Through the campaigns, Grant works to raise awareness on the need to get tested for the disease in addition to donation fund to the research for a cure. Grant’s motivation for this project comes from the experience of losing his mother to pancreatic cancer.
