Jackman also attended the Actors' Centre in Sydney and the Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia where in 1994 he left with a degree in theatre from the university’s Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Childhood for Jackman was exciting and he enjoyed playing with his peers on the beach, in many instances he would travel around the world courtesy of a high earning father who worked as an accountant. Many of the journeys that Jackman took were to England where he would go to visit his mother as well as his maternal relatives. From the onset Jackman dreamed of getting a luxurious and high paying job just like his father and for a long time he toyed with the idea of being a journalist and then a chef, at one time he even fancied working for one of the airlines he frequently travelled in.
Also among Jackman’s interests was acting and this was something he had picked from theatre halls in England during his visits to his mother. Occasionally he would take a lead role in school productions but it was not until 1990 that Jackman begun to think of going for acting as a career. Seeing as he loved to be on stage and that his looks were already causing interest among producers that had seen him, the idea seemed viable and interesting.
Jackman had to wait until 1994 when his breakthrough would come and this was in a guest role for the film Law of the Land, his presence on screen was well received and in the same year he was seen as a guest actor on Blue Heelers before a more permanent role was awarded in the film Correlli in 1995. Following his successful debut acts Jackman was selected to film in bigger films, these included The Man from Snowy River in 1995, Paperback Hero, and Erskineville Kings. For the latter film Jackman received his first accolade for Best Actor from the Wace Film Critics Circle of Australia.
In 2000 Jackman had his biggest gig yet and tis came in the form of a lead role in the film X-Men, this highly publicised production grossed millions in box office ticket sales around the wall and audiences were quick to become fanatics of the newly named sex symbol. The role of Logan the Wolverine was reprised by Jackman in the subsequent film series X-Men 2 in 2003, X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. For his roles Jackman was heavily honoured both as the lead actor and as the executive producer in the last of the film sequels.
