Ian Somerhalder Biography
Ian Joseph Somerhalder is a perfect example of doing things big, from his modelling gigs with major international designers to playing in famous films and television. Ian indeed is indeed the king Midas of entertainment since all his works have reached gold and platinum status. His is a story that begins in child stardom, the son to Robert and Edna Somerhalder, he hails from Covington, Louisiana, USA and his birth date falls on December 8 1978.
His good looks are credited to mixed race blood in the Somerhalder family, eve then as a child he was already attracting designers who were looking for children to model their clothes. Ian did not struggle through meagre shows before working with known names but instead he was quickly picked to walk runways in the fashion capitals of the world under big names like Gucci, Versace, Guess and Dolce & Gabbana.
Ian set off for an equally successful career on film in the second half of the 90’s with a 1997 debut role in ‘The Black Bag’ as a guest actor. His role in the 2002 comedy film ‘The Rules of Attraction’’ gave him considerable exposure and he started gathering a following of fans.2004 saw the actor play a human lab rat named Adam Knight in the popular series ‘Smallville’. Fans of the television series noticed the young handsome actor and followed his roles even in other productions. In the same year Ian was cast for the role of Boone Carlyle in ‘Lost’, a series set on an island after a plane crash. Although he was not the lead character Ian walked away from the series finale in 2010 with millions of dollars in payment.
Before appearing in ‘Lost’ for the last time Ian had already started filming for another hit series titled ‘The Vampire Diaries’. It is this act that put him on top of the most famous celebrities list. The series had a growing cult of teenage fans who did everything from voting the stars into award wins and buying billions of dollars’ worth of Vampire Diaries memorabilia. In the series Ian played lead role Damon Salvatore, teenage vampire who was in constant battle with his brother over a human look-alike of a love interest they had shared centuries before. Damon has to fight through the urge to make her his love or to kill and drink her blood.
His role led to double wins as Choice TV Villain and Choice Male Hottie in a Television series in the same year that the series premiered.
Ian is a competent horse rider and a lover of designer clothes and perfumes. He loves big cars, dogs and cannot stand dirty people. His most favourite roles to play are those of blood-sucking vampires and he fights hard to get them. He is quite good at it judging by the outstanding Vampire Diaries series performance.
Other roles by the actor include films like ‘The Sensation of Sight’, ‘The Lost Samaritan’ and ‘How to Make Love to a Woman’. He has also made guest appearances on CSI: Miami, CSI: Las Vegas and Law & Order.
