Janice Dickinson Biography
The early life of Janice Doreen Dickinson was filled with struggles that were instigated by her paternal parent but despite this she has risen to become a strong woman who is feared and respected by all, both male and female.
She goes by the professional name Janice Dickinson and her life story begun on February 15 1955 in Brooklyn, New York, USA. Dickinson was raised by her parents Jenie Dickinson and Ray Dickinson along with two siblings. As a child she had to learn the art of defending herself after the figure head that was supposed to protect her turned out to be the sole abuser of the young girl. This abuse was coming from Ray Dickinson and for years young Dickinson had to live with the torment and it is from here that she developed her trademark tough personality.
The only escape for Dickinson was in modelling where she often took part in local beauty contests that had been organised by neighbourhood designers. After completing her schooling, Dickinson was selected as a winner for one of the contents she had taken part in and the prize for this was a modelling contract with a top fashion agency. This turned out to be Whilemina Modelling Agency in New York City, New York.
Although this was a prestigious gig Dickinson did not have a smooth entry into the runways as many designers and fashion lovers shunned the idea of featuring the darker skinned Polish model in their clothing lines as well as their photo shoots. Fortunes however changed as her looks and dedication to the job broke barriers and led to her working with fashion companies all around the world from Milan, New York, London to Paris and Tokyo. Some of the names that Dickinson worked with included Versace, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Elle magazine, French Vogue, British Vogue, and American Vogue among others.
Dickinson’s reign on the catwalk went on through the 1980’s and she was named the supermodel of the century after she had received even greater success than other darker ethnic models that had graced the industry. At the time Dickinson was signed to the prestigious Ford Modelling Agency before she moved to work on a contract with Elite Model Management.
After a successful run in modelling Dickinson expanded her career to include fashion designing and television hosting. She established DHN in 2008 and this is a line that sells only high end jewellery in the upmarket stores in the US and other parts of the world.
Dickinson is the producer and host of her own reality television show named The Janice Dickinson Modelling Agency, under the show Dickinson works to recruit male and female model wannabes who would otherwise find it hard to earn an entry into the business. She has also been featured as a guest judge for four cycles of Tyra Bank’s America’s Next Top Model.
This celebrity has been controversial throughout her career over incidences of drug abuse and alcoholism. She is also known for her temper which has at times worked to the detriment of her business deals.
