Mentioned among the most beautiful and talented stars in entertainment today, Jennifer Lopez has had several film roles and music singles and albums to her name and she is by far one of the most successful stars that the entertainment scene has had.
Jennifer Lopez was born Jennifer Lynn Lopez on July 24 1969 in Bronx, New York, USA to Puerto Rican immigrants David Lopez and Guadalupe Rodriguez. Having realised that she wanted a career in dance and music at a tender age Lopez could not do much about it since she grew up in a strict home based on religious beliefs of Catholicism and was always involved in school work, although a little interaction with the theatre saw her take part in school productions and minor film roles from age five. A disciplined Lopez was schooled at Preston High School in Castle Hill, Bronx before joining the Baruch College in New York. She had to wait until college before she could venture into singing and dance but with little finance she had to do odd jobs in order to pay for a dance and voice coach.
She started by singing in clubs and several bands including some linked to Janet Jackson and New Kids on the Block from 1986 to 1993.
A highly successful music career led to the production of seven albums that sold relatively well in the US as well as in the Spanish speaking countries and some of her work has been rated platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA. Her albums were released from 1999 to 2010 and they are titled ‘J.Lo’, ‘Rebirth’, ‘This Is MeThen’, ‘On the 6’, ‘ Brave’, ‘Love?’ and an entirely Spanish album titled ‘Como Ama una Mujer’ . The latest album by Lopez is ‘Love?’ and it went on air in 2010. Lopez’s debut album was put on shelves in 1999 and was titled ‘On the 6’and it featured hit singles like’ If You Had My Love’. Lopez credits the song for her breakthrough into the music industry and it went platinum instantly after its release.
Lopez’s acting career has been equally successful with over 20 film appearances between 1986 and 2010. She is most remembered for her roles in ‘ The Wedding Planner’ , ‘ Maid in Manhattan’ , ‘ Anaconda’, ‘ U Turn’, ‘ My Family’ and most of all ‘ Selena’ .
She has been accused of abusing animal rights by extensively using animal products in all her fashion houses namely JustSweet, JLO by Jennifer Lopez and Sweetface, established in 2007, 2005 and 2003 respectively. Besides this controversy the sexy star has had a sting of known short-relationships over the years with celebrity figures like Sean Combs, Ben Affleck, Marc Anthony and Chris Judd.
Lopez has consistently featured on tabloid polls as one of the sexiest women in entertainment and along with other Latina personalities like Eva Longoria and Eva Mendes she has been voted as one of the sexiest women alive.
The actress is also an aggressive businesswoman with a restaurant in California named Madre’s plus a line of lady perfumes like ‘Miami Glow by J.Lo’, ‘Live by Jennifer Lopez’, ‘Sunkissed Glow’ and a gentleman’s fragrance named ‘Deseo’ released to the market in 2007. Her products have been featured on designer shop shelves in Europe, America and Asia.
The mother of two enjoys playing tennis and softball.
Lopez is ranked among top Hispanic artists like Ricky Martin and she is one of the most influential people in the Hispanic region.
