John Travolta Biography
John Joseph Travolta was born on February 18 1954 in Englewood, New Jersey, USA and he has been entertaining audiences around the world for 42 years now in acting, singing, producing, and writing. He uses the stage name John Travolta and many of his films have depicted him a strong character courtesy of his large physique.
Travolta is the son to Salvatore Travolta and Helen Cecilia and his now deceased parents raised him a middle class home along with five other siblings. He attended school at the Dwight Morrow High School in Hudson, New York although due to the urge to venture early into acting he did not graduate. As a child Travolta drew the inspiration to be on stage from his mother, often his parents would gather together for family time that comprised of watching old movies and listening to music legends like The Beatles.
From this environment, Travolta and his siblings grew up fascinated by the workings of the entertainment industry and with the support of his mother and father Travolta begun performing from as early as five years old. The performances were at first staged in the family home where he would go on a makeshift stage as the rest of the family acted as the audience. In addition to the love for acting, Travolta took on an interest in singing as well as in the workings of airplanes. He figured that acting professionally would expose him to all the three aspects since one had to use a plane to get to filming areas and being a celebrity artist meant mingling with other established musicians.
On quitting school Travolta moved to New York City where he hoped to take advantage of the booming film industry, it was not as easy as he had expected and after numerous disappointments he got a minor role in a 1972 television series that was titled Emergency! S2E2. This debut gig was followed by years of no job offers until in 1975 he was offered a part in the film The Tenth Level, also in the same year he was cast for a role in The Devil's Rain.
An appearance in the 1976 The Boy in the Plastic Bubble film earned Travolta his first accolade although it was a nomination for the TV Land Award, he did not win the final award. In the 70’s, Travolta continued in a steady career rise by appearing in several more films like Carrie, Saturday Night Fever, and Moment by Moment.
A near halt in his career in the 80’s was followed by more roles in Look Who's Talking Too, Eyes Of An Angel, Chains of Gold, Boris and Natasha: The Movie, Pulp Fiction, Phenomenon, Orientation: A Scientology Information Film, Face/Off, Broken Arrow, Swordfish, Ladder 49, and A Love Song for Bobby Long. He has also acted in Lonely Hearts, Wild Hogs, The Taking of Pelham 123, Bolt, and Old Dogs.
Travolta was last seen in the role of Charlie Wax in the 2010 film From Paris with Love.
