John Christopher Depp II, otherwise known as Johnny Depp , is an American singer and actor born in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA to parents John and Betty Depp. His birth date is June 9 1963. Depp’s childhood was rather unpleasant. His father’s engineering job paid modestly and could not take care of his family of six. For this reason the Depp family was always on the move as his father tried to get better job in different states. From then on it was downhill as his parents decided to go their separate ways leaving Depp and his siblings under the care of his jobless mother. Stressed by his life’s hardships Depp began dealing drugs and smoking. After he dropped out of school and decided to follow his passion , that is singing.
After stints with several bands he landed his first role, making his debut in the industry on the film ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ in 1984. Depp went on to play Tommy in the series ’21 Jump Street’. His role in the series was the starting point to the actor’s popularity.
In the following years Depp continued to play in more films like, ‘Donnie Brasco’ and ‘The Astronaut’s Wife’. Depp’s wit and humour saw him succeed all the roles he played. For his role in the film ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’, Depp got acclaimed praised and was said to be the reason behind the film’s success in the blockbusters.
However it is his role as Jack Sparrow in the popular film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black pearl’ that made him one of the most known and loved actors in the entertainment industry. For his role in the 2003 film Depp was nominated for the ‘Best Actor Award’ at the 2006 Academy Awards.
He reprised his role in the consequent ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ sequels. In 2006 he appeared on ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ and played in the 2007 ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow’. The films were valued at over 130 million dollars after their release.
Depp’s most popular kid’s movie is ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. In the movie he plays Willy Wonka, a troubled owner of a chocolate factory. He comes from a home where no candy is allowed and later sets up the biggest chocolate factory in the world. Ironic to his role in the film, Depp is allergic to chocolate in real life.
Depp has worked his way to fame and fortune, earning millions of dollars throughout his career. He is also an adored sex symbol by his increasing female fan base. He has sung for a number of bands as well as done his solo music projects like ‘Fade Away’ and ‘Fade In and Out’.
Depp is a father to Lily and Jack and he lives with his French girlfriend Vanessa Paradis. His favourite films are ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘Shrek’. Depp’s favourite band is The Rolling Stones. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and also plays the acoustic guitar.
