Joseph Gordon-levitt Biography
Middle class couple Dennis Levitt and Jane Gordon had their son Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt on February 17 1981 in Los Angeles, California, USA they raised him along with an older sibling in the suburbs of Sherman Oaks, California. Although his direct kin was not involved in the film industry Levitt was a descendant of a generation of actors and actresses on his grandparents side, his father was however involved in show business but his concentration was in television where he worked as a news anchor.
Levitt received his education from Columbia University in 2000 although he had previously been enrolled at the Van Nuys High School in Los Angeles, California, a lover of the arts he was drawn to acting from the age of two although being so young his parents enrolled him into a normal kindergarten rather than in a children’s art school. In 1988 and at only six years Levitt was pulled into the entertainment industry after his parents accepted an offer to feature the young boy in a televised product campaign, unknown to Levitt this would be the beginning of a roller coaster ride that is an entertainment career.
After Levitt had appeared on television his life was never the same as demands for him to feature in more productions came and they kept on coming, with no academic qualifications for many of the roles he was enrolled for a crash course in acting and thereafter he begun to act professionally. In 1988 he made a debut in the film Stranger on My Land and later in the same year he was seen on Family Ties, Levitt’s child roles were well received and this led to an even busier filming schedule in the early 90’s for the films Settle the Score, Dark Shadows, Murder, She Wrote, Changes, Hi Honey I'm Dead, Plymouth, China Beach, and Quantum Leap.
Levitt’s 1991 role in Quantum Leap earned him the first accolade of the Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor Guest Starring in a Television Series, his reign over screens continued with L.A. Law, Powers That Be, Beethoven, River Runs Through It, and Partners. While maintaining his high school education Levitt became one of the most popular acts and his transition from a child to teenager actor was smooth and with minimum difficulty.
He rose to even higher fame in the second half of the 90’s decade and awards given to him expanded to include the prestigious Saturn Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Award among others. With the coming of the 2000’s Levitt was seen in Outer Limits, Picking Up the Pieces, Forever Lulu, Manic Lyle, Treasure Planet, Latter Days, Mysterious Skin, Havoc, Lookout, Miracle at St. Anna, Brothers Bloom, and Big Breaks.
Recent roles by Levitt in 2010 are in the films Hesher, Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny, Elektra, Morgan and Destiny's Eleventeenth Date: The Zeppelin Zoo, and Inception. 2011 will see Levitt feature in 50/50 and in 2012 he will be seen in Premium Rush and Looper.
Besides acting Levitt is an accomplished singer.
