Jude Law Biography
Jude Heyworth Law first made his name in 1987 as a Broadway actor credited by the name Jude Law, his origins go back to December 29 1972 when he was born in the Lewisham region of London, England, UK. The part producer and director grew up under the guardianship of his middle-income parents Margaret Heyworth and Peter Law, his education was acquired from the John Ball Primary School in Blackheath, the Kidbrooke School in Kidbrooke, the Alleyn's School also in Kidbrooke and finally the National Youth Music Theatre in London, England.
Growing up Law was popular for his enticing looks that made him popular with girls in his neighbourhood and schools he developed an early interest in the stage and was often a crowd puller with his school theatre productions. Seeing their son’s talent Margaret Heyworth and Peter Law did their best to support him by ensuring that he got the best coaching for his talent development. Law’s parents also permitted him to take part in casting calls for local Broadway shows which the made sure to attend.
By the time Law was 13 he was already a child star and the demands of busy training schedules were starting to take a toll on his school life, he was able to convince his parents to let him defer from school as a move from theatre to television meant that he was even busier. Law’s parents understood and they let him focus on his rising career but this moved turned out to be the last time that Law would attend school.
In the early 90’s Law’s career was on a steady rise and he became a household name in London after appearances in the films Tailor of Gloucester, Sherlock Holmes, Crane and Shopping. Meanwhile Law was also making headway in television with roles in film series including Families, Marshal, The Fastest Clock In The Universe and Les Parents terribles.
Law gained fame in 1997 when he was cast for the role of Alfred Douglas in the popular film Wilde, after its premiere Law got high acclaim from critics and producers offered schedules for projects in major films. Law chose to work in the films Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Wisdom of Crocodiles, Gattaca, Music From Another Room, eXistenZ , Presence of Mind and Final Cut. His role in the film Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999 was followed with numerous accolades from the BAFTA Awards and Blockbuster Entertainment Awards for Best Actor and Favorite Supporting Actor in suspense respectively. Law received prestigious nominations for the outstanding performance from the Empire Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, the Academy Awards and the Saturn Awards among others.
Film credits by the actor in the 2000’s decade include Love, Honour and Obey, Happy M'Gee, Enemy at the Gates, A.I. Artificial Intelligence, Road to Perdition, Cold Mountain and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.
Law has had a controversial relationship with the public and the media for his roles that featured him completely naked, something he brushes off as part of the requirements of his job.
The actor is a campaigner for the end of the Iraq war and his charity efforts include the donation to eradication of child diseases like polio.
