Kanye West Biography
When the name of hip hop genius Kanye West is mentioned it raises emotions of wonder, admiration, respect and even hate. This celebrity artist is by far the most controversial entertainment personality and hate him or love him he is still one of the highest earning producer and rap artists of the decade. Kanye’s birth name is Kanye Omari and he hails from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. On June 8 1977 he was born to middle-class parent Donda and Ray West. He was an intelligent child and was schooled in top schools owing to his education-oriented mother who was also a college teacher.
His academic background can be traced to Polaris High School, American Academy of Art and the Chicago State University. Music was engraved in his genes and even with the responsibilities of school Kanye still had time to produce for upcoming artists like Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson among a number of other artists. The musical guru first started working at the Roc-A-Fella Music Studios that was owned by billionaire Jay-Z. The two artists worked on a partnership that saw them rise to the ranks of hip-hop.
He began developing his own style not only in music but in his fashion style before taking on the entertainment scene under the name Kanye West. The artist’s debut album titled ‘The College Dropout’ went on air in 2004 after he signed a deal with Roc-A-Fella Records. The album sold millions of copies and caused an uproar of controversy with his lyrical content and single titles.
Some of Kanye’s hit singles over his career include ‘Jesus Walks’, ‘Heartless’, ‘I Still Love H.E.R’ and ‘Good Life’. He has produced six solo albums to date including ‘Late Registration’, ‘808s & Heartbreaker’ and ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’.
Kanye has quite the number of haters and is often in trouble for his loud-mouthed attitude. He is known for lacking discretion during interviews and on other events. His most famous stunt was when he showed up for the MTV Music Awards drunk and his outburst after singer Beyonce was not give an award that in Kanye’s opinion, was rightfully hers. No matter the number of haters Kanye’s good taste in fashion is highly commended and many strive to be like him.
Kanye has made musical productions with Alicia Keys, Keysha Cole, Jay-Z, Twista and Jamie Foxx. The rapper’s awards for his work are ever-growing and some of them include Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist and Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, both in 2008. At the 2009 Brit Awards Kanye scooped the International Male Solo Artist Award.
When not involved in music Kanye is a restaurateur, a campaigner for child education in under privileged parts of the world and donates for causes that support victims of Hurricane Katrina and the Haiti Earthquake.
He had an unfortunate experience in 2007 when his mother lost her life to a surgery gone bad. The artist was shaken up further by a motor accident that almost killed him. For the first time the world got to see his softer side which was a far cry from the usual arrogant personality that everyone was used to. He however got enormous support from his fellow stars and from his fans.
The rapper looks up to Jay-Z and Dr.Dre.
