Kate Beckinsale Biography
Judy Loe and Richard Beckinsale, now deceased, had their daughter on July 26 1973 in London, England, U.K and they named her Kathryn Bailey Beckinsale, she would later grow up to be one of the greatest actresses in recorded history.
She showed interest in art from an early age, taking part in school productions as well as essay competitions even before she was five. This was expected as the Beckinsale family shared a collective interest in acting and writing, her father was an established and respected author while her mother was a known genius on stage. Beckinsale was schooled at the New College, Oxford University and the Godolphin and Latymer School in London before that. She was always an intelligent and active student who participated in various competitions and won her school a number of writing titles and accolades. By the time she was done with college, Beckinsale was multi-lingual, speaking fluently and writing in French and Russian.
Her exceptional childhood took a dramatic turn in when at the age of six her father lost the battle to a long-time ailment. The self-proclaimed ‘daddy’s girl’ was crushed and she became withdrawn, avoiding contact with the public and writing down her pain in poetry and song lyrics. However when the pain became too much she found a quick fix in drugs and alcohol. This usage of narcotics continued on into most of her teenage-hood.
Beckinsale made an entry into film in 1993 through a role in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, the film was produced on a low-budget and was less publicised on the media, a trend that was repeated in most of her films in the 90’s decade. Some of these films include ‘Haunted’, ‘Through the Looking Glass’, ‘Prince of Jutland’ and ‘Laurel Canyon’.
Beckinsale is remembered for her most successful role yet in 2001’s ‘Pearl Harbor’ alongside Ben Affleck, the film marked the end of the jinx of low-profile films as it grossed billions on the premiere night and filled theatres with eager audiences. High-budget films followed on and she was seen in the movie ‘Van Helsing’, ‘Underworld’, ‘Serendipity’, ‘Underworld: Evolution’ and ‘Avator’. Her latest films are titled ‘The Trials of Cate McCullough’ and ‘Underworld 4’ and they will both premiere in 2011.
When she is not on stage Beckinsale works as a model for London-based Independent Models. She is one of the wealthiest actresses and was voted the sexiest woman alive in the 2009 publication of Esquire Magazine. Beckinsale is has been involved in controversial accusations over her unwarranted comments on interviews that have been deemed offensive and unnecessary, because of this she is often referred to as a loud mouth. The public and media have had constant scrutiny on the actress’ weight as allegations of anorexia have surfaced from her childhood. Beckinsale insists that is in her past and that the condition was a reaction of a teenager grieving the sudden loss of a father.
She is a mother of one with her long-time husband Len Wiseman.
