Kate Moss Biography
On January 16 1974 in the Addiscombe neighbourhood of Croydon, London, England Linda Rosina and Peter moss had their first-born child Katherine Ann Moss, the couple raised her in a humble middle-income home until 1987 when they went separate ways and young Kate was left under her mother’s care. Middle-class quickly turned to low-class since Linda Rosina could barely make ends meet on her bartender salary. She was however determined to provide the best for her two children and so she sought a school that could offer education to her children on scholarship basis. Kate got a government grant and she went to school at the attended Ridgeway Primary School where she graduated and moved Riddlesdown High School in Purley.
Moss openly admits to getting by in life with her looks, at school she was the perfect example of a dumb blonde and her grades were consistently poor. She made no effort whatsoever to excel academically as her belief was for a career in modelling one did not need academic credentials. Moss saw school as a waste of her time and a less challenging event that did not do enough to interest her so she dropped out before graduating from high school and took up modelling full-time.
She graced catwalks in Paris, New york, Japan among other fashion capitals of the world as a teenage model she worked with established designers like Vyes St. Lauren, Bulgari, Christian Dior and Burberry in the 90’s decade. Her petite body and curvaceous figure served in her rise and near fall from the modelling industry. Her look and body type won over top fashion magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair and Essence. Magazines were vying for her to feature in their local as well as international publications. By the end of the 90’s Moss was one of the most sought after and highest paid models at the time. In 2006 Moss was estimated to be worth a gross 9 million dollars by the Forbes Magazine annual richest celebrities’ poll.
Moss has also been very controversial over claims of substance use and anorexia/bulimic issues. Her state of health was so bad that on set she looked like she would collapse and an outcry by the then US President to put her under observed medication landed on deaf ears. In addition to drug use Moss was also admitted over extreme attempts to maintain the perfect model figure at the expense of her own health.
Despite being in the spotlight over her bad sense of fashion Moss went on to launch her clothing line titled Topshop in 2007. The line featured women’s shoes, bags, scarves and dresses which were well received in the UK, an expansion move saw the Topshop clothing feature in American fashion shops.
Moss is a vegetarian and a vocal supporter of animal rights through the PETA Foundation. Although she loves designer outfits she does not support the use of animal products in their production.
She is a breast cancer campaigner and promotes awareness of the disease by both men and women through regular testing. Some of her jewellery has been auctioned and the proceeds channelled towards cancer research.
