Katherine Heigl Biography
The early times of Katherine Heigl bordered between a life of wealth and a horrific tragedy, known to family and friends as Katherine Marie Heigl at the time, she was brought up by her executive parents Paul Heigl and Nancy Engelhardt after she was born on November 24 1978 in Washington, D.C., USA. Growing up Heigl enjoyed the luxuries that came with her parents’ managerial jobs in addition to living by the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Together with her parents and three siblings she lived in a leafy suburb and attended the private New Canaan High School in New Canaan, Connecticut, up to the age of eight she was like any other normal child who enjoyed nothing else but playing with friends and siblings. A sudden demise of Heigl’s older brother turned the once normal family into a sad state, young Heigl was thrown into depression and she became dis-interested in her former life.
Paul Heigl and Nancy Engelhardt tried anything they could think of to cheer their youngest child up but it seemed like her childhood would pass away in a cloud of misery, fortunes changed when an ordinary experience of taking family pictures at a gathering changed her life. As Heigl posed for the pictures she realised that this was something she was actually enjoying in a long time, seeing this, her parents figured that a job as a child model would distract her from the pain of losing her brother. And that is how Heigl’s stint in modelling begun.
In 1986 Wilhelmina Models took her in as one of the youngest models, a busy modelling life ensued and Heigl was featured in one fashion tabloid after the other. Soon she was shooting for names like Sears, the mega market franchise. The name Heigl was however known internationally when she was cast for her debut film titled That Night, although fresh from high school and with barely any film experience to talk of, Heigl was an instant natural on the stage so much that she impressed other producers to book her for upcoming films.
In 1993 Heigl appeared in another fairly successful film titled King of the Hill and next she was seen in 1994’s My Father the Hero. Heigl’s role in the latter film turned out even better and she was honoured with a Best Performance by a Young Actress Starring in a Motion Picture from the Young Artist Awards in 1994. Following this success she starred alongside Steve Seagal in the highly publicized 1995 film titled Under Siege 2: Dark Territory, other roles were in the films Prince Valiant, Bug Buster, Bride of Chucky, and 100 Girls.
Heigl is most famous for roles in television series with her popularity rising after appearances in the teen series Roswell and in the medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy, in Roswell Heigl played Isabel Evans from 1999 to the series end in 2002. Her character in Grey’s Anatomy was named Dr. Isobel "Izzie" Stevens and she reprised the role from the pilot show in 2005 to the finale in 2010.
Besides acting and modelling Heigl is also a film producer and she was the lead producer for the 2010 film titled Life as We Know It.
