Keira Knightley Biography
Keira Knightley of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ fame hails from Teddington, London, England . A child of screen couple Will Knightley and Sharman McDonald, she was born on March 26 1985 and she quickly learnt the ropes of the acting business. Keira’s father had earlier met her mother on the stage and he intended to pass down the family trade to his daughter. He became an influence on the young girl by involving her in his scripting work and listening to ideas from the young girl’s already creative mind in order to draw inspiration for the movie roles he wrote. In addition to this Sharman McDonald ensured that Keira had a guaranteed backstage pass to all her filming events.
Keira watched carefully and learnt what was expected of an actor on stage and with her in-born talent she had acquired the necessary skills to become a film star. While attending the Teddington School in London she took up coaching from a private tutor so that she could polish on what she already knew about acting. On graduating from the school she joined the Esher College in London and majored in acting.
By now Keira’s mother decided to involve her daughter in acting since she figured that the hectic filming schedules would not disrupt her education. Keira audition for several films before she was called back about a passed audition in 2002 and began filming for the soccer film ‘Bend It Like Beckham’. Her role in the film was her biggest yet after previous roles in minor films. She was thrown into the limelight with the film’s success and received commendable reviews from film critics.
Immediately she finished filming for ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ Keira was set to begin work on another film that was set to be in the box office in 2003. This film was the famous ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl’, Keira shared the set with co-stars Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp as she portrayed the role of Guinevere. She received an Audience Award for Best Actress and was nominated for the Empire Award for Best British Actress. Critics were in praise of the actress and the film grossed an estimated 32 million dollars during the premiere.
Keira reprised her role in the subsequent ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End’ in 2007. She scooped the People’s Choice Award for Favourite Female Actress for the later sequel and for the former she was awarded, alongside co-star Johnny Depp, with the People's Choice Award for Favourite On-Screen Match-Up.
The actress’ other famous roles were in ‘Princess of Thieves’ in 2001 where she played Robin Hood’s daughter named Gwyn. In 1998 she was Judith Dunbar on the film ‘Coming Home’. Keira also appeared in the popular 1999 film titled ‘Oliver Twist’ where she played the role of Rose Fleming. 2002’s Doctor Zhivago saw her play Lara Antipova .
For her image she has received both negative and positive attention, she is rumoured to be anorexic and has been voted one of the sexiest celebrities’ on numerous occasions.
