Keri Hilson Biography
Keri Hilson has achieved fame and established herself as one of the latest successes for her multiple roles in singing, song writing, producing as well as in collaborations with various established artists and producers in the music industry. Hers is a story of a young girl who knew from early in life that her calling was in music despite being talented in many other fields. Born Keri Lynn Hilson on December 5 1982 in Decatur, Georgia, US, she maintained a busy childhood that saw her take part in almost all sporting events at her schools as well as musical productions in her neighbourhood.
Before Keri had joined the Tucker High School in Tucker, Georgia she had already amassed a number of singing gigs as well as being a qualified piano player. Seeing a talent in their daughter Keri’s parents decided to support her interest by hiring the best music tutor, dance and voice coaches in Georgia in an attempt to aid her entry into a singing career. Together with her parents Keri became a keen follower of talent searches and television singing shows where she drew inspiration from musicians like Janet Jackson.
Keri began composing her own music in 2000 while at the Oxford College of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia and after a few stints with girl bands as well as writing songs for upcoming musicians under the group The Clutch she landed her first big break as a background singer for noted artists who were quick to work with the new singing sensation. From 2001 she begun to write, sing and produce songs for artists like Mary J. Blige, Ludacris, Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Usher, Britney Spears, Omarion and The Pussycat Dolls.
She went on to feature in Timbaland’s hit single ‘Scream’ alongside Nicole Scherzinger in 2007, a year after the producer took her into his recording label called Mosley Music. Keri’s work with the top producer coupled with the success of the ‘Scream’ single pushed her into stardom and featured her in the top spots of Billboard music charts in the US. She became a favourite performer at major concerts and music awards ceremonies apart from making appearances in music videos for singers Usher, Ne-Yo and Britney Spears.
Keri’s claim to fame as a single artist came in 2009 with the hit album, In A Perfect World produced by Timbaland under Mosley Music, the debut act by the singer was immediately bought off the shelves and was soon certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA. This opened a series of successes with consecutive top spot singles like ‘Energy’, ‘Superhuman’, ‘Knock You Down’, ‘Medicine’, ‘Hold My Hand’, ‘Hero’, ‘Turnin Me On’, ‘Return The Favour’ and ‘Everything, Everyday, Everywhere’. Many of her singles were collaborations with artists like Fabulous, Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Chris Brown, Timbaland, Sean Paul and rapper Nas. In a Perfect World became a club regular and was on airwaves all around the world as well as in music charts in Australia, Germany and New Zealand.
The singer followed on her fame with an even bigger album in 2010 titled No Boys Allowed, featuring hit singles like ‘Pretty Girl rock’ and ‘Breaking Point’. Keri’s success in music has been attributed not only to her vocal capability but to her lyrics that encourage her listeners to rise against failure and for women to hold their heads high in the face of adversity.
