Kim Cattrall Biography
Dennis Cattrall and Gladys Shane Baugh had their daughter on 21/08/1956 in Liverpool, UK and they gave her the legal name Kim Victoria Cattrall. This young girl would grow up to be a famous actress with a career spanning over 26 years and it is still running. Kim Cattrall, as she is professionally known is popular for her recurrent appearance in the television series Sex and the City.
Growing up, Cattrall enjoyed a happy childhood albeit being a modest one following her parents’ middle class jobs. Cattrall’s academic history can be traced to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts where she majored in theatre. From the onset she exhibited a talent in acting and on seeing this her parents hired the best acting coaches that they could afford so that the young girl would be trained on the basics of the trade.
Cattrall had to move often in her childhood as her father’s construction job was unpredictable, anywhere that he got a job the family would follow since at times the work trips would go for months on end. Despite this, the young girl was able to maintain her studies in theatre by enrolling at the available schools from Canada to England and even the US.
On completing her college studies in 1975, Cattrall had a fairly easy entry into the entertainment industry. She was recommended by one of her coaches to a film executive and in no time she had made a deal with Universal Recordings to appear in their productions. Cattrall made her debut in the film Rosebud and her act received an outstanding reception from fans, critics and other movie producers that wanted to work with her.
With only one film to her name, she was booked for more upcoming films in the 70’s decade and some of them were Deadly Harvest, Good Against Evil, Logan's Run Rama II, The Hardy Boys, Columbo: How to Dial a Murder, The Incredible Hulk, How the West Was Won, Vega$ Princess Zara, and Charlie's Angels.
Film appearances by Cattrall numbered more than fifteen in the 1980’s with more of them placing her in the lead role. These films included Tribute, Scruples, Ticket to Heaven, Porky's Honeywell, Tales of the Gold Monkey, Police Academy, Turk 182, City Limits, and Big Trouble in Little China.
Film credits by Cattrall in the 90’s were in Honeymoon Academy, The Adventures of Ford, The Bonfire of the Vanities, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Double Vision, Split Second, Exception to the Rule, Miracle in the Wilderness, Breaking Point, and Wild Palms. Cattrall also acted in the films Two Golden Balls, Above Suspicion, Live Nude Girls, and Where Truth Lies.
In 1998, Cattrall got one of her biggest career gigs yet but this time it was not in film but in the television series Sex and the City. In the lead role, she went on to reprise her character until 2004. The first film remake of the series came in 2000 and this was titled Sex and the Matrix, Cattrall took on the lead role of Samantha Jones. In 2008 she featured in Sex and the City: The Movie and in 2010 she was seen in Sex and the City 2.
