Lily Allen Biography
English pop singer Lily Allen was born Lily Rose Beatrice Allen on 2 May 1985 in Hammersmith, London, UK to showbiz parents Keith Allen and Alison Owen. Her father was an actor and her mother a film producer. Growing up Lily was a troubled child who ran away from school and got expelled numerous times. She often smoked, drank alcohol and had problems with authority. She had no friends as her parents moved a lot and she had to change school 13 different times. Allen was raised by her mother after her left when she was four.
The only thing that Allen seemed to do without any coercion was singing. Though young, she knew that music was all she wanted to do in her life. Allen joined the choir and took up to learning how to play the guitar and violin. She also discovered that her creativity helped to write beautiful lyrics so she started writing and never stopped. This was the beginning of the singer’s career.
Allen got a job away from home at a recording store and learnt how the music business was conducted. Briefly signed at London Records Allen moved to Regal Records, signing a contract with them in 2005. Her popularity and reputation as a singer-songwriter came through the social site, MySpace. Her posted demos were hitting ears fast and causing a whirlwind on the sit so much that the media wanted to know who the young singer was. She broke the records for the most number of friends on the site and the most number of downloads for her songs at 19 million downloads. In 2008 Allen appeared on her low rated show dedicated to the social phenomenon that was her career starter.
She rose to stardom after releasing her single ‘Smile’ from the album ‘Alright Still’ in 2006. The single was a major hit and was selling in the millions around the world in addition to toping charts in the US and UK.
The singer’s second album ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’ came out in 2009 and went platinum. It was equally well received and was a best-seller just like the first album. She wow the ‘British Female Solo Artist Award’ at the 2010 Brit Awards.
She has acted in several films including ‘Elizabeth’ in 1998 and a school production titled ‘The Railway Children’.
A fashion conscious Allen scooped the Glamour Women of the Year Award in 2008 and was nominated for High Street’s Fashion Best Dressed Celebrity award.
The singer has had controversial media coverage over her drinking problem, public nudity and public derogatory remarks on fellow celebrities.
Unfortunately she had a miscarriage in 2008 after carrying the baby of her then boyfriend Ed Simons. Later in 2010 Allen lost her second baby. The unborn baby’s father was Allen’s boyfriend, Sam Cooper.
She writes her own music and plays the guitar. She also hosts a talk show. Allen’s favourite designer is Chanel. She also took piano lessons as a child and is an accomplished player. She has a two younger siblings, Alfie, her brother and Rebecca, her sister.
