Madonna Biography
Madonna Louise Ciccone is an American musician and actor who goes by the stage name Madonna. Her birth date is August 15 1958 and was born to parents Silvio Ciccone and Madonna Fortin, now deceased, in Bay City, Michigan, USA.
The life of young Madonna was rather tragic following the death of her mother to breast cancer. Still a child and in desperate need of maternal guidance Madonna had to grow up faster than her peers and be there foe here five siblings. It got worse when the family housekeeper now turned step mother was married to Madonna’s father. Madonna now not only had to grieve her loss but she also had a 'demanding' step-mother to deal with. She found solace in her school work and keeping her grades up. Whenever the task was overbearing she would spent time in gay clubs and party for days end.
Her ‘other’ life often put her in trouble with her parents but a persistent Madonna was not willing to stop. She was a completely different person, a far cry from the once disciplined, religious girl. Perhaps her lifesaver was her invitation to study dance on a scholarship at the University of Michigan. She joined the program in 1976.
After college Madonna took up odd jobs in New York to support herself as she looked for a producer to record songs that she had written. She was finally signed under Sire Records and released her self-titled debut album in 1983. The album sold out and Madonna went back to the recording studio, coming back with ‘Like a Virgin’, her second album in 1984. The album was an instant hit and quickly became a best-seller. The single ‘Material Girl’ received a lot of airplay and was highly praised. ‘True Blue’ and ‘Like a Prayer’ ,her third and fourth albums went out in 1986 and 1989 respectively.
She did not only sing but also acted in several films including ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’, ‘Vision Quest’, ‘Shanghai Surprise’, and ‘A League of their Own’.
The musician never lacked controversy, she authored a sex book and posed nude for the book’s pictures. The world was left in utter disbelief at her courage with some wanting to be like her and others wondering where she derived her courage and confidence from. The book still sold millions of copies with some buying it out of love, and others out of curiosity. Whatever the reason, the book did not stay on the shelves.
Her music is a blend of rock, dance and pop. She is a multi-instrumentalist and plays the percussion, guitar and drums. Madonna is very fashion conscious and has proved herself a fashion symbol over the years and her trends are quickly copied.
Madonna has one daughter, Lourdes and one son, Rocco. The musician also has an adopted child, David. Her favourite flowers are white roses and she loves the book ‘Gone With the Wind’.
She is a self-made artist who gained strength from her misfortunes to work hard and establish herself as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.
