Mark Ronson Biography
Growing up Mark Daniel Ronson was surrounded by artists in his close family and past generations on both his parents’ side had made a living as actors, musicians, fashion designers or music managers. Following in the tradition was an almost obvious fact since from the time he was born it music was the only thing that Ronson could relate to without any difficulty. His parents Laurence Ronson and Ann Dexter-Jones were already established acts in the entertainment scene and they took it upon themselves to induct their son to their world.
Born on September 4 1975 in Notting Hill, London, United Kingdom he changed his name to Mark Ronson on taking up a career as a singer, disk jockey and producer in 1993. Ronson’s interest in singing came through his father often the pair would make rounds with his father’s band to joints in London where young Ronson would have an assured front seat at all their performances. He was fascinated by what the singers would do with their voices behind the microphone, soon he developed a curiosity to the instruments and by the time his parents split in 1984 Ronson had mastered the workings of all the machines.
Little did he know that a move to the United States coupled with his self-taught knowledge would for the beginning of a successful career. Ronson went to school at the prestigious Collegiate School on Broadway in New York, the Vassar College and later he was enrolled at the New York University. New York provided the perfect platform in the early 90’s for the talented Ronson since at the time hip hop was beginning to gain fame and young music lovers were increasingly identifying with the genre. Ronson saw an opportunity in this and he started to spin records for his friends in the neighbourhood, this grew to a full-time DJ job at a downtown New York club and Ronson’s fame grew all over the city. He started working with accredited acts on the music scene in producing songs for them as well as in hosting their socialite parties.
Established as a DJ and a producer Ronson’s next venture was in singing, he released Here Comes the Fuzz in 2003, this debut album featured songs like ‘Ooh Wee’, ‘Sunny’. Although a dedicated, production the public was not excited by this album and Ronson returned to the studio only to emerge in 2008 with Version, a second album that brought in accolade after accolade soon after its release.
Ronson is a full-time producer and in 2004 he established a recording house named Allido Records, through the recording label he has gained wealth, fame and success as a genius with a mountain of respect from fellow producers and other artists. Some of the musicians who have passed through Allido Records include Amy Winehouse, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Lily Allen, Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake and big shot producer Timbaland.
Ronson has had short-lived relationships with celebrity names like Daisy Lowe, Josiphine de La Baume, Rashida Jones and Tennessee Thomas. He is a vocal supporter of animal rights and his campaigns have mainly been through the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA Foundation.
