Michelle Obama Biography
Along with her husband Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, popularly known as Michelle Obama is the most widely recognised Black American. There are many names that have been used to describe her, from role model to fashion icon, one of the world’s most beautiful first ladies, and a strong woman. She indeed carries her titles with an elegance and humility that is admirable.
Obama was born on January 17 1964 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Her parents, Fraser Robinson III and Marian Shields were not wealthy and so the family had to do with a shanty one bedroomed apartment. This had to be shared by the family of four but despite this young Obama was a happy child. Hers was a model family that did everything that a typical family did form regularly attending church service to having home cooked meals. The entire family had been brought up in a principled home and education was given a forefront hand. Obama was expected to excel in her academics and in this aspect she did not disappoint.
For her education, Obama was enrolled at the Bryn Mawr Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois before moving to the Whitney Young High School. Following her graduation from high school, Obama continued her education at the Princeton University for a major in sociology. This was not enough and Obama took on law at the prestigious Harvard University. She was so studious that in some instances Obama was allowed to take on higher courses than those of her students. Even more interesting was that at her home favourite pastimes included engaging in intellectual games like monopoly.
On graduating from Harvard, Obama took on a job at a law firm in Chicago. Here she was destined to meet the man who would be the 44th president of the United States and her husband. Barack Obama was the name of this man and within a short while he had fallen in love with the impressive lady. As it would turn out, the lady would not fall for his charms that easily and after a tug and pull the Obama’s were wed in 1992. They went on to have two children, Malia and Natasha. In 2008, after an active involvement in politics and supporting her husband’s career, Obama became the first lady of the United States of America.
The once fairly unknown lady was thrust into the limelight and she became an instant idol. Crowds around the world were impressed by the strong Black woman who was clearly viewed as the right choice for the White House. On the night of her husband’s inauguration, Michelle Obama was under extreme media scrutiny. Fashion enthusiasts around the world were all interested in what the new first lady would wear to the evening party and who the designer of her outfit was. After appearing with a white one strap gown there was a lot of applause for her image.
Michelle Obama is seen as the only first lady of her stature to take on an important role without letting go of her image. She and her husband are greatly loved by young audiences for their obvious energy and good social skills.
