Mick Jagger Biography
Michael Philip Jagger, stage name Mick Jagger is a noted name in entertainment and he has enjoyed a long career ranging over fifty years from 1961, his is a success story that begun with an instant rise to the top unlike that of many other artists whose careers follow a gradual path to stardom. Jagger was born on July 26 1943 in Dartford, Kent, England, UK.
Jagger’s parents Eva Ensley Mary and Basil Fanshawe Jagger were middle income earners who taught Jagger that the only way out of economic hardships was through excellent academic credentials, he was schooled at the Wentworth Primary School in Dartford, Kent, the Dartford Grammar School, and the London School of Economics where he took up a business major. Following his parents’ dream Jagger remained an great student in the classroom leading his classmates throughout the school years, in addition to that he was one of the best singers at the school’s music club as well as the in the church choir.
His free time was spent listening to old records and imitating musicians on television, despite this Jagger’s eyes were set on a white collar job after completing his education. In 1961 Jagger’s course in life took a turn when instead of following the intended career path he joined a group of friends to form a band, although they had no official name the band performed at local entertainment spots as well as other social gatherings.
In 1963 The Rolling Stones was formed at it comprised of Jagger and his friends whose popularity in the UK had begun to put them in the media’s spotlight, Jagger was forced to change to an image that would be respected and rival other bands so The Rolling Stones title was officially adopted and together with his band mates he stated producing songs from own lyrical compositions. Some of the hit singles by the band included ‘As Tears Go By’, ‘The Last Time’, and ‘ I Can’t Get No Satisfaction’. The success of the 60’s was followed with more platinum albums including Between the Buttons, December's Children, and Aftermath.
Together with The Rolling Stones Jagger gained a cult following of heavy metal and rock fans that were attracted to his keen sense of fashion and social lifestyle that included high profile parties that often came with heavy drinking. A 1972 album titled Exile on Main St. was followed by a series of tours around the UK that saw Jagger in concerts that were sold out within days of ticket release.
At the same time he was releasing solo albums that included She's the Boss, Primitive Cool, and Wandering Spirit in 1990, all his albums went platinum and the singles occupied top ten positions in UK and US Billboard charts.
The Rolling Stones continued their success into the 2000’s and the band went into the Guinness World Book of Records for holding the largest number of returns through a more than forty year period as at 2007, most of the millions of dollars had been recovered from the band’s music tours. To date The Rolling Stones have several documentaries made in honour of the long standing dominance in addition to owning The Rolling Stones music label.
Jagger is a multi-instrumentalist and he is competent in playing the harmonica, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, and the percussion. His music blends rock and roll, psychedelic rock and blues-rock styles.
