Natalie Imbruglia Biography
Natalie Jane Imbruglia, stage name Natalie Imbruglia, ventured into show business in 1991 and she immediately rose to fame with the role of Beth Brennan in the daytime sitcom Neighbours. Imbruglia is both an actress and her singer and her origins go back to February 4 1975 in Central Coast, New South Wales, Australia where she was the first child in a family of four siblings.
As a child Imbruglia was drawn to dance and her favourite styles were tap and ballet although this would later be abandoned for a found love of the theatre stage. Throughout elementary school she was a child model appearing in several televised product campaigns, by the time Imbruglia was in her mid-teens she was signing deals with big names like the Coca Cola Company.
Imbruglia’s first professional acting gig came in 1991 when she was cast for a role in a soap named Neighbours, this drove the new film entrant to instant fame as masses in Australia tuned in to watch the daily episodes. With her stand in the career assured, Imbruglia relocated to London in 1993 where she was signed to BMG Publishing as a singer.
In 1997 the singer released her first studio album titled Left of the Middle, featured in this album were hit singles like ‘Torn’, ‘Wishing I Was There’, ‘Big Mistake’, and ‘Smoke’. These drove the album to top spots in the UK and US music charts and within a few months the debut album went multi-platinum. Critics were full of praise for Imbruglia and she was honoured with a Best New Artist award at the 1998 MTV Awards, other accolades in the same year include Best Female Video USA for ‘Torn’, ARIA Music Awards Best Australian Single, Best Australian New Talent Australia, Best Australian Female Artist Australia and in 1999 she received 3 Grammy Award nominations for her debut album Left of the Middle.
Two years later Imbruglia followed her debut act with White Lilies Island, the 2001 album featured the singles ‘Wrong Impression’, ‘Beauty on The Fire’, and ‘That Day’. This production went platinum in the UK but internationally it failed to match the success of its predecessor. She has since released two more albums titled Counting Down the Days in 2005 and Come to Life in 2009.
Besides music and modelling, Imbruglia’s adult career in film includes appearances in Johnny English and Closed for Winter. She has however enjoyed more success in television roles in series like Saturday Night Live, Law of the Land, Legend of the Lost Tribe, In Memory Of Maia, and The X Factor.
Imbruglia is a vocal animal rights campaigner and her work has mainly been through the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, PETA. She is also known for her charity modelling shows that are meant to raise funds for cancer patients.
The celebrity was in 2004’s top ten list of the most beautiful women in the world although she says that her looks will remain natural since she does not believe in plastic surgery.
Imbruglia’s music features a predominantly pop genre although she has some influences of alternative rock.
