Nicolas Cage Biography
In an entertainment career that has been in play for thirty years, Nicolas Kim Coppola has proven his ability to be a success on stage and in that time he has become one of the most well-known actors in the film industry. Going by the stage name Nicolas Cage, he has expanded his career to include stints in producing and directing films.
Cage was born on January 7 1964 in Long Beach, California, USA to Joy Vogelsang and August Coppola. Coming from a mixed heritage of Italian and German blood, Cage was no stranger to the show business as his descendants from generations back had been involved in acting and directing films as their careers. He attended the Beverly Hills High School and later he enrolled at the School of Theatre, Film, and Television which is an affiliate of the University of California Los Angeles, UCLA.
As a child, Cage was surrounded by already established actors in his family and it is from them that he learned about the makings of the film industry. This soon developed into an interest in the art and Cage became an active participant at his school theatre productions. In the first films that Cage acted in he was in minor roles that had been earned through the connections of his family members. With an urge to make it on his own, Cage adopted a new last name that would credit him as an individual actor and not as part of the renowned family.
Setting out on his own, Cage appeared on his first major film in 1980, this was titled Brubaker and after the debut featured he took on more roles. Film credits by Cage in the 80’s decade were Best Of Times, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Outsider, Racing with the Moon, The Cotton Club, The Boy in Blue, Raising Arizona, Never on Tuesday, and Moonstruck. Taking on the character role of Ronny Cammareri in the 1987 film Moonstruck, Cage was received his first accolade of Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes awards. This was however a nomination and the final prize was not won by the actor.
With a fruitful career in the 1980’s, Cage continued on with more film appearance in the 90’s. These included Tempo di uccidere, Fire Birds, Wild at Heart, Honeymoon in Vegas, Amos & Andrew, Red Rock West, Guarding Tess, It Could Happen to You, Trapped in Paradise, Kiss of Death, Con Air, City of Angels, Bringing Out the Dead, and Face/Off. With the role in the latter film, Cage was nominated for a Best Actor award at the 1997 Saturn Awards, this lead role alongside actor John Travolta is one of the trademark appearances in film by the actor.
Recent features in the 2000’s by Cage include Gone in Sixty Seconds, The Family Man, Welcome to Hollywood, Italian Soldiers, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Christmas Carol: The Movie, Ghost Rider, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Knowing, and Grindhouse. Upcoming films that will feature the actor are Season of the Witch, Drive Angry, Trespass, The Hungry Rabbit Jumps, The Croods, and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Ghost.
