Ozzy Osbourne Biography
Over forty years in music and multiple platinum award winner Ozzy Osbourne still retains the respect worthy of the king of heavy metal, a title gained for daring to take rock music to heights many other artists never dared to. Osbourne was originally named John Michael Osbourne after his birth on December 3 1948 in Aston, Birmingham, England, UK, from the time he was a child he was different with many thinking that he was bizarre if not weird and scary.
Osbourne was part of a large family that included five siblings and his parents Jack and Lillian Osbourne, being so large in number and with only meagre earnings from his parents the young boy had to live in a low class status and in a cramped up house that could barely contain all the kin. As if this was not enough Osbourne was a sickly child who faced great difficulties at school, his tutors were unwilling to offer the assistance needed. He attended School in Birmingham, England.
A failing trend in school coupled with the family’s cycle of poverty pushed Osbourne to abandon his academic efforts and he went on to make a living for himself at the age of fifteen, this proved difficult at first since no one wanted to hire a minor plus Osbourne had a record that was tainted with instances of drug use. He resorted to a quick solution to making money which involved shoplifting and burglary, this did not turn out well either as he found himself in a juvenile detention facility.
Osbourne’s decision to venture into music came in 1968 after a long time love for rock music and watching bands like The Beatles perform on television fuelled a passion for the art, he started with a short stint in the band called Rare Breed. The main audience for the two man band was guests of local bars but after a few performances they realised that response to the music was in low numbers and the duo disbanded in 1969.
His next stint turned out to be the career maker as in 1969 he formed, along with his friends a band called Earth, this was later renamed Black Sabbath. Osbourne signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records in 1970 and the band went to the studio to work on a debut release, it was title Paranoid and sales for the album went over the roof as lovers of Gothic and horror tunes were drawn to the lyrics. Although shocking to many in the beginning, Black Sabbath was able to break through to masses that were attracted to the mystery that surrounded Osbourne and his band mates.
Following albums included Master of Reality, Volume 4, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, despite selling millions of albums many of which were platinum Black Sabbath broke up in 1980 following rumours of conflict and extensive substance use.
Osbourne continued with a solo career that included several album releases like Diary of a Madman, Bark at the Moon, The Ultimate Sin, No Rest for the Wicked, No More Tears, Ozzmosis, Down to Earth, and Black Rain all released in the 80’s except Ozzmosis, Down to Earth, and Black Rain which were released in 1991, 1995 and 2001 respectively. Osbourne made a comeback with a 2010 album titled Scream.
