Paul Mccartney Biography
Living legend of the Beatles and Wings fame Paul McCartney was born James Paul McCartney to Mary Mohan and James McCartney on June 18 1942 in the Liverpool Neighbourhood of England, U.K. He went on to become one of the highest selling artists for singles that not only topped the music charts around the world but they were played the most number of times ever recorded for a particular artist in history.
His venture into music is credited to James McCartney, his father who was a great inspiration to the young boy and was the main force behind his interest in singing. Paul’s father enjoyed listening to classical hits and playing an array of instruments, his soon became curious and wanted to master the art and soon senior McCartney was playing the role of a mentor. Over time Paul became so good at playing the guitar and he had already mastered the music styles of many artists of his time.
Music became more than an interest to Paul after his mother succumbed to a long time ailment in 1959, the devastated teenager turned to music as appoint of solace and almost became obsessed with it. Paul was schooled at the Stockton Wood Road Primary school from 1947, the Joseph Williams Junior School and the prestigious Liverpool Institute. Paul was always a brilliant student who excelled in the classroom as well as in extra curriculum activities, in all his schools Paul was a consistent top student and he graduated from all of them as part the leading groups.
McCartney begun his musical journey in 1957 on joining the Beatles Band, then known as The Quarrymen, he did not become a known name until 1960 when the band begun appearing in high profile clubs performing hit singles like ‘Yesterday’, ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’, ‘Let It Be’ and ‘When I’m 64’. The singles drove the band to instant stardom and gained them a large following of fans that could not wait for more productions from McCartney and his band mates. This trend was repeated year in year out until 1970 when McCartney venture out alone with a new band called The Wings. Together the bands have over 24 albums to their names.
McCartney enjoys painting and is quite skilled even though he has never attended an art class in his life. His works have been displayed in galleries all over the U.K.
The icon’s career has been clouded by allegations of drug using ranging from performance enhancer, cannabis, marijuana and cocaine which were as a result of the high profile and demanding life of the Beatles Band.
McCartney is a multi-instrumentalist and in addition to being an accomplished guitar player he plays drums, keyboards, piano, bass guitar and the ukulele.
Despite his retirement McCartney remains vocal about social issues like the need to provide platforms to enable young talented children develop their talents and make careers in music. He campaigns for causes that seek to ensure a greener environment in the era of global warming.
