Ricky Martin Biography
Ricky Martin forms part of the group of Latino artists who have put Spanish speaking regions on the world map as having talented singers and actors just like other regions of Europe and America, together with others like Enrique Iglesias he has put a spotlight on his Puerto Rico country through a career that is characterised by a string of album sales and awards. Martin was originally named Enrique Martmn Morales after his parents Nereida Morales and Enrique Martin Negroni bore him on December 24 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Singing and acting have always been part of him from the time he could utter his first few words, and his parents were keen supporters of their son from the onset.
Seeing their son’s talent Nereida Morales and Enrique Negroni hired voice and dance coaches to develop their Martin’s talent, in addition to this he joined the church choir at the age of five where his voice put him among the lead singers in the group. While under the guardianship of his mother after his parents’ separation Martin was raised by a supportive mother who took the responsibility of accompanying her son to all casting calls and auditions that she heard of. At school Martin was a child star already and his roles in school plays attracted a gathering of eager school fans.
Away from school Martin easily won over producers with his looks despite being only twelve at the time, his first contact with television was in product campaigns for companies in his country, this soon turned to roles in Spanish Telenovas. Seeing her son’s busy schedule Neredia agreed for Martin to take a break from high school in order to focus on his demanding and growing career. Martins’ first soap opera was Alcanzar Una Estrella II, it premiered on Latin television in 1989 and caused a whirlwind of attention from fans and the media that wanted to know more about the sexy entrant.
Besides acting Martin was the lead singer of a boy band named Menudo, with the band he achieved even greater success that saw him tour the country to perform in concerts. The Latin pop band enjoyed success for five years starting 1985 to 1991 when Martin went solo with a single titled Fuego Contra Fuego from his debut album titled Ricky Martin. Fans went wild with the production and Martin’s fame reached the American and European music markets. Two years later he emerged with a second album named Me Amaras and just like the predecessor it was well received despite it being entirely in Spanish.
A Medio Vivir, Martin’s fourth album came in 1995 when he was already an established act worldwide, this time album sales went overboard in his production went multi-platinum in many of the English speaking nations. In 1999 Martin responded to his fans outside Puerto Rico with a full English album titled Ricky Martin, this was equally successful as the previous works. Before this album Martin had broken barriers with Vuelve, a Spanish album that featured hit singles like ‘La Copa de la Vida’, this single later became the theme song for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.
Other albums by Martin include Life, Sound Loaded and Almas del Silencio, he was also featured in the popular medical drama General Hospital in 1995. The father of two honoured with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1997.
