Since his debut into the limelight in 2003, Whittle has been known by the professional name Ricky Whittle and his has been a career in modelling and acting.
Whittle was educated at the University of Southampton where he majored in Criminology. His childhood was strict and it was spent on the move courtesy of a father who was employed in the British military service. Growing up as an army kid meant that Whittle had to exercise the strictest of standards from how he carried himself to his work at school. High grades were expected by Harry Whittle and he did not entertain any joking by his son.
Outside the classroom, Whittle was equally focused and his interests were in rugby and football where he represented not only his schools but also his local teams in numerous tournaments. Aside from being actively involved in sports, Whittle was taking part in a few modelling gigs in order to sustain his upkeep at college. What had initially started as an effort to make money was soon turned to a full blown career when the looks and athletic physique of Whittle became highly demanded by many company advertisements.
Whittle however refused all the offers but that of Reebok and after signing a contract in 2000 he was featured as the main celebrity face behind the sports company’s products. Success in modelling was all that Whittle enjoyed as a career in football was in trouble and marred by a series of injuries. Seeing this Whittle took on a backup plan that would see him engaging in another of his many passions, and that was acting.
One of his first roles in the film industry was that of a homosexual man in the series Holby City, this was followed by more appearances in the soap opera named Hollyoaks until his last show in 2010. Whittle is famously remembered for his reality television appearance at the Strictly Come Dancing in 2009. Here he was paired with Natalie Love in a number of episodes that saw the pair advancing to the last stage. Whittle however did not take the prize as he was outshone by four points to the winning couple.
Whittle’s career has been surrounded by controversy and rumours after an incident in 2009 was followed by a long and highly publicized legal battle. The charges here were those of assault and reckless driving after the celebrity was accused of hitting a journalist that was trailing him. At the time of the incident, it was alleged that Whittle was from an overnight party and being drunk he had crashed into a reporter’s car and instead of approaching the situation amicably he had assaulted the victim. The case was however dropped after the charges could not be completely proven.
