Sarah Jessica Parker Biography
Known for her roles in the Sex and the City television series and the movie sequels also titled the same, Sarah Jessica Parker has been on film and television in a career that spans over three and a half decades and she has made a name in entertainment as a qualified actress and producer. The actress’ roots can be traced to Nelsonville, Ohio, USA where she was born to Barbra and Stephen Parker on March 25 1965.
Parker was raised by her mother after her parents separated when she was still young, her family moved a lot since her step father was a driver who spent most of his work life on the road, she was schooled at the Dwight Morrow High School in New Jersey, the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati, the Professional Children's School, Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California and the School of American Ballet in New York City.
Barbra Parker made sure that her daughter’s interest in dancing and performing was not deterred by the family’s mobile life and she took the effort to enrol her for classes and even hired coaches for her when the family was in transit. In addition to this she always attended young Parker‘s performances at her school and cheered her daughter on from the front rows.
Parker’s career went professional in 1974 with an appearance in The Sound of Music and then in 1977 in Annie, both were theatre productions that would later feature as films. After a successful run in Broadway Parker took on the movie sets in the 80’s with acts in Footloose, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Somewhere Tomorrow, Flight of the Navigator, My Body My Child and Firstborn.
In the 90’s she ventured into high profile films alongside established names like Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, Nicolas Cage and Bruce Willis, he career was set among the top acts in entertainment and she was cast to appear in films like Striking Distance, Honeymoon in Vegas, L.A Story, Hocus Pocus, Miami Raphsody, The First Wives Club, The Substance of Fire, Till There Was You and Mars Attacks!.
The talented beauty was keenly watched by eager audiences and directors were booking her for films with them. In 1999 Parker landed a role that would push her career and fame to even greater heights as she was cast for the role of Carrie Bradshaw in the television series Sex and the City, the show was set on a group of young and upcoming ladies in a big city and it showed how they juggled their careers, social lives as well as the demands of an upper-class society.
Sex and the City was aired until 2004 before a four year break that was followed by a remake of the series in a film titled the same and with Parker reprising her role, after the 2008 release she was back on film with the 2010 release of Sex and the City 2: The Movie. Both films grossed millions in the box office and Parker was awarded the Surprise-Award for her life and style by Maxim Magazine in 2010.
Parker has been married to actor Matthew Broderick since 1997 and the couple have three children. When not in film Parker serves as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for the United States.
