Simon Cowell Biography
Eric Cowell and Julie Brett had their Simon Philip Cowell, known simply by the name Simon Cowell, on October 7 1959 in London, England. Simon’s childhood was average and he grew up like any normal child, attending elementary school before joining Dover College. He was born in a limelight family, following his mother’s celebrity status as an accomplished dancer. For this reason Cowell was no stranger to the media and fan attention from the time he was a toddler. An average childhood turned chaotic at 16 when Cowell began to ‘act out’. He quit school and decided to work. Cowell’s parents, though disappointed at their son’s decision, decided to help him secure employment. The rebellious teen failed to appear at any of the jobs he got.
He went on to live by himself and earned very little as a clerk in the same company that his father worked. Broke and unable to sustain himself he had to his parent’s house. Humbled by the disappointing turn of events Cowell got himself another job at EMI, a records publishing company, and worked his way to the top. He followed the dream of owning a recording label so in 1981 he founded E&S Music in partnership with his former boss, Ellis Rich. Cowell later left the and formed his other recording label named Fanfare records. His move from the original record was attributed to the failure to sign successful artists who were successful with their music. The new label went on to record for famous acts like Westlife and Leona Lewis .
Despite having such big names in the record company, Fanfare Recordings was making huge losses and had to sell off after Cowell and his partner could not pay its debts. Cowell was broke again.
In 2001 the famous critic became one of the most popular television stars after launching a reality television music contest known as Pop Idol. The show was an instant success and became one of the most watched television productions in the UK. Pop Idol’s success prompted Cowell to take the production outside the UK and the following year America’s Got Talent made a debut in the US television scene. He made millions on the show and till today America’s Got Talent remains Cowell’s greatest income earner. Performing artists like Reuben Studdard, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks are all products of the show and were first discovered in the television series. In addition to forming and appearing on his famous television shows an entrepreneurial Cowell founded a production company and named it SYCOtv. His other reality shows like X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent were produced by the company. America’s got Talent is also a production of SYCOtv.
The ‘cold-hearted’ and ruthless judge has a charitable side and donates to poor and poverty-stricken families all over the world. Cowell has a love-hate relationship with fans of the America’s Got Talent show. Some say his straight-forward and often rude and demeaning remarks are the reason why the show, now on the eighth season, has produced winners that have successfully made careers in music. Others say that his criticisms are too harsh and unwarranted.
Whatever the criticisms or praise the star has made millions off his trade and is one of the highest earning television personalities of all time.
